2013 Trends: Hexagons!

By | 01/06/2013

The Hexagon is in!  I’m seeing cards and scrapbook page designs all over the place with hexagons everywhere!  I just couldn’t resist trying to figure out and easy way to cut nicely shaped hexagons without a punch!  Well, here it is!

hexagonsThe new Honeycomb Embossing Folder (#129379) makes this a fun trend.  The embossing folder gives you a very deep embossed image on card stock.  If you run Designer Series Paper, which is thinner, through the embossing folder and Big Shot (#113439) it actually softens the fibers in the paper enough that you can pull the hexagon shapes apart without much effort!  All you have to do is use your paper snips to cut along the inside embossed line to tidy up the edges and you have a hexagon!

In the card above, I used a piece of DSP from the Sale-a-Bration Flyer that you can get for free when the Sale-a-Bration begins on January 22.  I just used both sides of the paper, since they coordinate, to create an interesting pattern.  The metal buttons are also from the Spring Mini.  These are Basic Designer Buttons (#129325).  The sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Banner stamp set (#126257).

Here is a video to show you how I created the hexagons…the new trend for 2013.  (At least, that’s my prediction!)
