Alcohol Ink Backgrounds

By | 10/28/2018

Oh no!  I’ve fallen in love with yet another technique.

That’s right.  Alcohol inks.

Once again, this is a result of Altenew.  They keep coming out with new products and classes to go along with the products.  This starts my experimenting with the new products and techniques and before I know it…I’m HOOKED!

Altenew came out with the Artist Markers.  This is a set of 36 alcohol markers.  It’s the perfect number of markers.  3 in each color plus the neutrals.  36 markers are actually affordable compared to 2600 markers or whatever Copics have.  I just know that once you fall in love with something, you start collecting them.

I’ve actually started taking alcohol marker classes and I’ve been learning all kinds of alcohol marker techniques.

There is just one problem…alcohol markers mean that you have alcohol reinkers and that leads to a whole new creative endeavor…alcohol ink techniques.

**Sigh**

Now I’m hooked on alcohol ink backgrounds.  The best part is that I have the Altenew reinkers to refill my markers, but they can be used for all sorts of techniques.

I actually bought a few alcohol inks back in the 90’s, so I pulled them out and started playing with them.  Back in the 90’s, I could only afford a few and then you needed the glossy paper to work on too.  I had two little kids and I was saving for college and new shoes and all the things little kids need.  Funds were very limited, so I did not ever really experiment with the alcohol inks like I have been doing the last couple of months,

Check these cards out:

Isn’t that background pretty?

So simple.  I saw Tim Holtz do that on Carol Duvall’s show way back when and I finally tried it.  I bought some Yupo paper and the blending tool with the felt pad.  I got the alcohol ink blending solution as well.  (I don’t have little kids anymore.  In fact, college is all paid for and they support themselves…mostly.  I can actually experiment with craft supplies now!)

This is a fun technique that I have created a video for.  Then I took the background and did the inlaid die-cutting technique and created this card using Catherine Pooler dies and stamps.

It’s so pretty!  I’m actually going to enter this in the Muse Challenge #288.  Laurel Beard created a card using inlaid die cutting and I just could not resist using this background to do the same technique.

When you watch the video, you will see that I used craft foam to add dimension to this card and offset the die cut works to create a drop shadow so that the words popped out from the background.

I love this card.  This is another card that I will be sending to my daughter!  She loves getting cards. (I hope.)

I experimented even more with this technique and used the alcohol lift ink that I got in the last Simon Says Stamp card kit.  This has so many possibilities!

I created a similar background on this card and then dropped ink on top and added alcohol blending solution.  When it was dry, I used the Altenew Golden Feathers stamp set and alcohol lift ink to create this card.  I added Altenew’s Thank You script die with Simon Says blue glimmer paper on foam for a quick and easy card.

I love the effect on the background of this card.  While I’m not sure about the color combination, the background effect is fun.

Finally, I used a Hero Arts background stamp and alcohol lift ink to see what I could do with that.  Here is the result:

While the background wasn’t perfect for my first try, I was not unhappy with the result.  It was a fun experiment and I will definitely practice this one.  The possibilities are endless here.

That sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp and it is one of the October releases.  I love it!

What a terrific background for the Muse Card Club. Love the color and movement the inks provided and the offset sentiment.
