Christmas is Coming! Are You Ready?

By | 11/24/2012

I keep making different Christmas cards.  Everyone on my list will be getting a completely different card!  I keep experimenting with different stamp sets and different color combinations.  The real problem is that I love all of the cards!  It’s the story of my life.  I go into a shoe store and I love all of the shoes (well, except the pointy toed ones).  I go into Dooney and Bourke in the outlet center and of course I love every bag in there.  Don’t even get me started on the Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini and Sale-a-Bration goodies.  How will I control myself?  The only reason I can control myself in a candy store is because I’m allergic to dairy.  I can only select from the dark chocolates and fruity candies.  Thank goodness for small favors!

A new layout!

I decided to create another card from the Paper Craft Crews challenge sketches.  I am finding the challenges really fun and it’s giving me new layout ideas to add to my repertoire of inspiration and ideas.  I think that is what crafting is all about.  Try new things and new techniques.  Let go of the perfection and just have fun. A little imperfection never hurt anyone!  Here is what the sketch looked like:

Sketch Challenge 17

My card was created using Garden Green, Very Vanilla and Riding Hood Red Card stock and inks.  I also used a Versa Mark Pad and heat embossed the trees with Iridescent Ice Stampin’ Embossing Powder.  It really sparkles up close.  I used my Lovely As A Tree stamp set, a sentiment from a retired set (Punch Pals), the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder, the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Edge Punch, a piece of Real Red Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon and a Garden Green Brad.  I also used my Simply Scored Tool to create the embossed lines that you see on the red around the Very Vanilla image.  I scored two lines, one at 1/2″ from the edge and then in the next “well” of the Simply Scored to the left of 1/2″ (3/8″ from the edge).  I turned the paper to the next side and did the same thing until I had all 4 sides done.  I really liked the look.  I will be trying that on a larger scale next time.  It was just one little thing I had not tried before and now I have it in my bag of stamping tricks!
