Creating A Birthday Card Stash

By | 01/07/2019

I felt so inspired to create today for so many reasons!

  1. I got home to find my new goodies from the January Sunny Studio Stamps release.  I really enjoyed the sneak peeks that they gave us and had a few things on my list…those 6 x 6″ patterned papers for one!
  2. My company is gone and I actually had time to myself, guilt-free!
  3. One of my crafty resolutions is to participate in more challenges this year and I found 2 to give a go with for today. One was a sketch theme and the other was a theme challenge.
  4. I saw a card created by Laura Jane from After Hours that I really felt inspired by, so I’m casing one of the techniques she shared.

Let me share my card:

Stamping on patterned paper and adding marker details

This stamp set is so full of Sunny Studio goodness that it’s crazy.

First…the Frilly Frames Polka Dot cover die.  I just couldn’t resist this purchase.  Cover dies are a pricey item, but this one has 2 pieces.  It has the outer scalloped polka dot frame and the inner mat polka dot piece that can be used separately or together.

Since one of the challenges I am participating in is a clean and simple challenge, I kept the card layers as white-on-white.  On a truly CAS card, you wouldn’t have layers, but this just came today and I had to use it!

Then let’s talk about the fantastic Sunny Studio 6 x 6″ patterned paper stacks.  They once again had 4 packages chocked full of fun spring colors and patterns.  Those went into my shopping cart!

Then that cake stamp and sentiment are from 2 of the small Sunny Studio stamp sets.  I didn’t purchase the larger sets in the release because I LOVE their small sets.  It’s just enough for me to have a cut image or two and a sentiment or two.  I can create quite a variety of cards with just a couple of images and background techniques.  I love challenging myself to do that.

I also added my favorite Studio Katia iridescent bubbles for a finishing touch.

I’m participating in the Addicted to CAS Challenge this week and the theme is Stripes.

The technique that I was playing with was to stamp my cake on to striped patterned paper and then add some shading details with my Copic Markers and my white Jelly Roll pen.

I really like the technique because it gives that little cake so much dimension and stamping on to patterned paper is a great way to stretch your supplies and make them go further and do more for you.  I also love adding the marker and gel pen details.  I took a class at Altenew Academy that was called Beautiful Details and I’m really trying to use what I learned there.  The instructor was just a master at adding very beautiful details.

Here is the CAS challenge:

My card layout came from a  challenge site that I have not seen before and I’m excited to participate in.  It is the Atlantic Heats Sketch Challenge.

You can see how I used the sketch to create the layout of my card.  I did modify it a touch by moving the “ribbon” piece up to tuck under my focal element.  I also used my iridescent drops instead of a bow.  I really liked the sketch and couldn’t resist playing along.  They are having a design team call and I’d like to add my name to the list to be considered for their design team as well.

I’m also participating in a Birthday Card stash challenge over at The Stamp Nation site.  I have completely depleted my birthday card and thank you card stash.  Let’s hope they do a thank you card challenge in February!
