Creating A Single Layer Card With A Multi-Layer Sketch Challenge

By | 01/23/2019

Over the past year there have been several self discoveries I’ve made about myself as a card maker.

I like clean and simple cards.  I really like that white space.  I’m not always good at leaving it, but I really like it.

I also like single layer cards. In that, I personally include the cards that I just stamp on a front panel and then add to a card front.  All the work is done on that top panel.

I like creating mixed media cards.  I just love techniques.  I love using different mediums to add color and texture to a card.  It makes me happy.

I love watercoloring in all varieties of ways and I love alcohol markers.  Yep…I love my Copics.  I even love the time I spend practicing watercoloring and coloring with markers.  It’s just so relaxing.

This week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge is a sketch challenge and it is a pretty sketch. Perfect for a clean and simple card with lots of white space.

It also has a lot of layers of stuff.

I challenged myself to create a single layer card with the sketch and still conform to the “layers” in the sketch.

Stamping Imperfection Single Layer CAS card Unity Stamps

This is 3 stamps and a watercolor wash.  The stamp set is called Layers of Life and it is from Unity Stamps.

I’ve used Altenew’s Red Sunset collection of inks.  I used the light Blush to create the bottom layer that I washed on with an aqua brush.  Then I stamped the background tiny hearts and dots in the Rouge color.  I topped it off with the Velvet for the heart.  I used the permanent black ink for the sentiment and then topped it with clear embossing powder to make it brighter and shiny.

The little heart drops are from HAI and came in the Sparkle-n-Sprinkle Rose Heart kit that I just can’t stop playing with!

I didn’t add the bow or the pennant strip of ribbon or paper that you see in the sketch, but I do have layers and the sentiment works with the multiple sentiment strips from the sketch.

Here is the Paper Craft Crew Sketch:

I flipped the sketch and I have 3 of the 4 layers.  I think that I accomplished my mission to create a single layer card out of a multi-layer sketch challenge!

I would love to see what you create with this sketch!  You don’t need to have a blog, you can post a photo of your card on to Facebook or Instagram and then add it with the linky button and join the challenge.

If you’ve never done a challenge before, you only have to be super brave the first couple of times you play along and then before you know it you start looking forward to adding your card to the gallery.

It’s pretty fun to see how other people interpret a sketch!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Happy crafting!

Carol, Thank you so much! I have to say that I’ve been working on the CAS style for a while. As I look back on cards that I’ve created, I really love the CAS style more than the ones I put everything on! Thank you for stopping by and commenting!
