Happy Birthday, Mikey!

By | 08/12/2013

Happy Birthday, Mikey!  You’d think that by the time a guy turns 20, his family would stop calling him “Mikey”, but somehow the nickname just fits.  He’ll always be Mikey to me just because he’s my youngest “child”.  I can’t wrap my head around the fact that he’s 20 now.  When did that happen?!

If you have a late-teen, or an early-20 year old son, brother or grandson, you know that it’s a dilemma about what to get them for gifts.  I’ve shamefully resorted to gift cards!  It’s just easier and I don’t have to return it.  Plus…I love making gift card holders!happy_birthday

This is really just a pocket the has a slide out card holding a gift card.  How fun is this?

Materials:

Papers and Inks:  Pear Pizzazz, Elegant Eggplant,  Sahara Sand, Gingham Gardens Designer Series Paper, Soft Suede Coordinations Card Stock, soft suede and sahara sand ink

Stamp Sets:  Remembering Christmas, Essentially Yours (hostess exclusive with an order of $150!)

Accessories:  Big Shot, Labels Framelits, Ovals Framelits, Wood Grain Embossing Folder, Burlap Ribbon, Pear Pizzazz Ribbon, Very Vanilla Seam Binding, sponge dauber, Label Bracket Punch, Mini Metallic Brads, sanding block

I love the touch that the Wood Grain Embossing folder and Coordinations Card Stock add to any card.  They are especially nice when you need to create a masculine card.  People often find masculine cards challenging to come up with, but I think that Stampin’ Up! has given us some fabulous stamp sets and tools to do just that.  Remembering Christmas is one of those sets!

When I first saw the Remembering Christmas stamp set in the Holiday catalog, I wondered in the world would you do with that?!  It reminded me of the poor deer my father had stuffed and mounted years ago. My very persuasive mother just unloaded that onto my son…he’s moving in to his first apartment soon.  He apparently thought it would make a great piece of wall art in his very tiny studio apartment.  Personally, I think those eyes will just be staring at him no matter where he is in that one room place! When I realized that he really liked the idea of having his grandfather’s deer head in his apartment, I thought it would make a great birthday card idea!  And yes…I did consider putting a wiggly eye on the card just for giggles!

Later this week, I will have a video out to show you how to turn any card into a gift card holder!
