My Favorite Christmas Image With Vellum

By | 12/19/2017

Have you ever felt so inspired by something that you couldn’t wait to share it with everyone else?
That’s how I felt about this week’s Paper Craft Crew challenge and that is not until tomorrow, so I still can’t share it with you!

Instead, I’ll share another card that I hope you feel inspired by.

This week’s SUO Challenge #190 is a Favorite Holiday Image. I’m combining this with one of my favorite techniques to create a scene that I have in my memories from childhood: Hiking through the woods and cutting down the Christmas tree in the snow.

I loved the Nature Sings stamp set as soon as I saw it.  It just made me think of those family trips into the “West 40”, which was a wooded piece of property on my grandfather’s farm.  We always hiked down in there on a snowy day and found just the right tree.  Dad would cut it down with a hand saw and then we would “help” Dad drag it out of the woods.  This was a tradition that we all loved.

It was followed by hot chocolate and toast then tree decorating with Mom and Dad arguing over exactly how the tinsel should be “placed” on the tree.

I chose to use this vellum technique because in my memories the days were always snowy days when we hiked into the woods for the tree.  I wanted to give it some dimension and the feel of a memory.

I hope that you can see that I have embossed snowflakes and a snow covered pine bough on the vellum.  I’ve added a couple of those fabulous glimmer enamel dots that I’m loving so much.  Every card needs a bit of sparkle.

I love this technique because it was one of the first techniques that I learned at a card class and it WOWed me!  The first time I saw the white embossing on vellum I thought it was stunning.  I still do.  It gives the card an ethereal quality that I find dreamy.

A lot has changed since those days.  My husband and I passed that tradition on to our kids when they were small.  It was actually even more fun as the parent watching the wonder and excitement in our children’s eyes.

And I must admit that I do miss Dad.  I would surely love to reminisce with him about those days just one more time.  One more Sunday morning phone call and coffee chat…

I truly hope you are having a peace filled holiday season with your friends and family.  There is nothing more wonderful than carrying on old traditions and starting new ones.

By the way, I used 3 stamp sets for this card:  Nature Sings, Flurry of Wishes for the sentiment and Peace This Christmas for that snowflake.

Thank you for stopping by!
