Scrapbook Layout With Mixed Media Background And Embellishments

Friday night means a Vicki Boutin Facebook Live Mixed Media Lesson.

What a fun Friday night it was!  I missed last week’s Friday night live so I wasn’t prepared for tonight’s, but I played along anyway.

I pulled out one of the backgrounds I had created the night we did the bubble blowing with the acrylic paint.  Then I created a quick color wash with similar distress oxides and did some splattering.  I then stamped some flowers and butterflies on that panel and fussy cut them out.

I added some red and yellow watercolor to a couple of them and I pulled out a couple of the extra gelli plate backgrounds that I had from last week’s project and stamped and fussy cut those as well.

I had a whole pile of stamped ephemera with mixed media layers added!

Then Vicki started showing us how to build our page from there.  I added some word stamping.  I chose a script grateful from a Catherine Pooler set.  The butterflies were from a CP set as well.  The flowers were from an Altenew set.

When we got that done, we added some splatters in the same color so that the words were anchored and not floating on the page.

Then it got scary, but I played along!  We added a deep blue layer to the base of the page and then dried it and added a second layer.  Then we added splats of that!

We also create some photo mats with that same deep blue using the kissing technique, then we dried them and stenciled on top with the same color of ink.  The stencil I used is from Elizabeth Crafts.

After that we built our page with the mats, flowers and butterflies.  Vicki had sent us a cut file earlier in the day for the title, but I haven’t figured out how to print that on my Brother Scan-n-Cut yet.  I decided to use a premade title from some gold thickers that I had.  I also added some gold enamel dots.

The final step was to pull out two washi tapes for the bottom of the page just above the deep blue layers.  I chose a floral that had some pink and yellow.  I just wanted more of that on the page.  I also chose a gold because I felt like I needed that in just one more spot.

I’ll have to decide if I like it tomorrow.  Things always seem to look better the next day!

I had so much fun creating it and I have lots of ideas for future pages.

Mixed Media Scrapbooking

It’s so ridiculously fun to create each layer.  I love just pulling things out of my stash without thinking about it too much.  I’m always trying to keep up with Vicki and create along with her.  Of course my page looks almost nothing like hers.  I used completely different materials.  She built hers on a 12 x 12″ page and this is just a regular old 8-1/2 x 11″ piece of 110# white cardstock.

I love creating mixed media backgrounds and I love creating my own patterned papers.  I also love creating my own embellishments, but I usually have a little more time to do that than I did tonight. All in all, I will always look at this fondly and remember a pleasant evening experimenting and creating with Vicki and everyone else that was watching and creating too.

As I look at it, I wish I had flipped the two center flowers so the pinks weren’t next to each other.  I also wish that I hadn’t added the white gel pen detail.  It looks so much better in person with the gel pen because it looked flat without it.  But in the photos that details really stands out!

I’m so glad that you stopped by so I could share my Friday night mixed media layout with you!

I hope you are finding some time to create and forget about everything else for a while!!

Be well friend!
