The July Challenge for the Scrapbook Challenge YOUrself challenge this month is all about shapes!

I chose to use circles.  You could use just one shape in your layout or combine many shapes if you want to.  Just make sure YOU are in the photo!

As you know, I have pretty much scrapbooked all my photos from past vacations and my kids as they were growing up.  I am now moving on to tell the story of what our life is like as empty nesters!

You’ll find a lot of my layouts include pictures of the beach with my husband.  We have not done any exciting things in the last year and a half since retiring thanks to the pandemic, but we have managed to squeeze in some time outside together.

We take almost weekly picnics to one of the beach access points near our house.  My husband is a fisherman and he knows where all the quiet spots are so that is super helpful.

Here we are with the seagull that came to visit.  He just stood next to us watching us…waiting for some scraps.  He got very close.  He even tried sneaking up behind us.

Alas, my grandfather raised pheasant and quail and always said that it was not good to give bread to birds because if it gets wet it can choke them.  It gets stuck in their gullet.  I don’t know if it is true, but I’m still following that rule.

So that bird got no scraps from us!

I used goodies from my June Hip Kit Club subscription.  I love this kit!  I also added a few labels and a journaling box from my May kit from Elle’s Studio.

I created a background with some die inks.  I smooshed some watered down Flamingo Kitsch distress oxide ink on the background paper, which was a white 12 x 12″ mixed media paper from Vicki Boutin.  I also added some splatter in Cove Blue Catherine Pooler Ink and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide.

I also added some pink stenciling with the Maker Forte Peacock Feathers stencil.  One of my FAVES!

Once that was dry, I create a layout using some scraps of blue shades of cardstock that coordinated with the Hip Kit papers that I cut down and used.

I added my title and 4 small clusters of ephemera.  I actually showed quite a bit of restraint.  You know how I LOVE ephemera and bling.

I even pulled out a border punch.  I love that scrapbooking gives me the chance to pull out my older tools and keep using them.  They still work and at this point, they are free!!

Why, yes I do have a video of my process!
