I have a new card sketch to share with you for this week’s Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.
I won’t lie…I wasn’t excited about this sketch. I don’t love the strips of paper layered like this. I can never get the card to look nice when this is part of the design. UNTIL TODAY!
You bet. I was very careful about my paper choice. I realized that when I looked back at cards with this design element, the ones I liked the most are the ones that use a vertical strip and lined them up. They also used the same paper for all the strips of paper.
I searched through my papers until I pulled out the Serene Love DSP. This was an online exclusive released in December (ish). Of course I bought it. It was Night of Navy and Lost Lagoon and I love those colors. Plus, have I mentioned that I have purchased way too much DSP in the last 6 months? I’m not allowing myself to purchase any more DSP until the new catalog comes out…and even then, I will be frugal with my purchases.
Do you love it? I definitely do. The paper choice made all the difference. I just cut one 2 x 5″ piece and then cut it into 1/2 x 5″ pieces. I used one for the inside of the card and the other 3 on the front.
I kept it pretty monotone by using coordinating Night of Navy card stock and ink for the sentiment.
I paired it with this fun bee from the Meant to Bee set. I gave the card a pop of color with the Daffodil Delight bee body and the Real Red hearts from the stamp set. It has a coordinating die set which made it so easy to cut out all the bee parts and then use glue dots to put it together. I added two small embellishment hearts that I had left over from the January Paper Pumpkin kit so that was perfect!
I love how this turned out and the next time I get challenged with a sketch that has paper strips, I will keep this in mind. It’s my new secret weapon for card making!
We would love to have you join our challenge. You can go to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge blog and link up your card. We would love to leave you some comment love!
