The new challenge for this week on the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge blog is for this sketch:
I have never been fond of adding fussy strips of paper to my card base. I am a reformed perfectionist and these kinds of card sketches test my reformed status.
I hate when the strips aren’t evenly spaced from each other or from the card panel edges.
It still just annoys me.
This time though, I made myself a slice of card stock that was 1/4″ wide and used it to evenly space my strips of colored card stock. I’m much happier with the end result!
Check out my card:
To make any imperfections even less noticeable, I added the color strips to a white panel and then ran it all together through my Exposed Brick embossing folder. This is a retired Stampin’ Up! embossing folder, but it remains one of my favorites and I use it all the time.
Isn’t it pretty with the entire thing embossed as one piece?
I also heat embossed the larger of two sizes of the retired Deckled Circle dies. I used the copper embossing powder for a fun touch.
The florals are from the Flower Fair background stamp. I die cut out a portion of the stamped image and colored it in with my Stampin’ Blends. I used Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, and Hydrangea Hue. I also used Peaceful Pine.
My sentiment is from Simply Said.
I added some white gel pen details to the florals. The new Stampin’ Up! gel pens are very nice. They work so much better than the old brand I used to buy. One key to white gel pen success is to not use a lot of pressure on the pen tip while using them. If you have a heavy hand while writing like I do, loosen up your grip and the pressure you put on the pen as you use it. It allows the ink to flow so much better that way.
My final touches included some Barely Blush enamel dots from the 2026-2028 In Color Enamel Dots. I also added a twine bow from some retired Lemon Lolly twine I have in my stash.
The card stock is Hydrangea Hue, Barely Blush, and Lemon Lolly.
We would love to have you join us for the challenge!! The link is at the top of this blog post!
