Christmas Cards Featuring Simple Foil Details

By | 11/11/2021

I was playing with some of my Scrappy Tails Crafts stamps and dies today trying to recreate a version of something that inspired me in a paper crafting magazine a month or so ago.

I searched my stash for foil specialty paper and all I had left was a copper foil!  I’ve been working my way through my stash, so YAY ME!

I created two cards with two of my favorite die sets and a small stamp set that I got in the last release.

I was happy to find that I also had some copper embossing powder for the background I wanted to create.  I am surprisingly happy with how these turned out.  Although, to be honest, they are nothing like I had planned in my head to start with!

I ink blended some panels and stamped two of them with the snowflake stamp from the Countdown To Christmas Advent Set.  I heat embossed these in copper.  One panel was inked with Tumbled Glass and the other with Spun Sugar distress oxides.

I also created a multi-color panel that I die cut the ornaments out of as a filler for behind the copper foil outlines.

I added the holly die cut to each card.  This die is from my favorite new die set: Assorted Christmas Leaves dies. The sentiment came from the set with the snowflake stamp.

You can see the details of how I did the J and Y in my video below.  I added Crystal Effects to add some shine and I love the end result!

One change I am going to make is to find a new copper embossing powder.  You can see that I lost all the snowflake detail because the powder was not a fine detail powder.  I’ve linked a fine detail powder in my supply list below.

I am not unhappy with the end result of using that embossing powder.  The snowflakes are hexagons and it still adds a nice detail to my background and gives me the extra copper shine I was looking for.
