Hip Kit Club Layout 2!

By | 10/24/2020

The October Main Scrapbook kit that I purchased from the Hip Kit Club this month has been a blast to play with!

I’ve already created 3 layouts and I’m going to create another one today.  I’m so happy with the variety of papers, chipboards, thickers, and die cuts that I got in this kit.  I love that they curated a kit with materials from several collections that actually coordinate together.  It’s nice to be able to grab the giant plastic bag full of kit goodies and just create a page without having to create a bunch of elements to go with it to decorate the page.  It’s also nice to know that I’ve got 4 whole sheets of 12 x12″ paper and 2 half sheets to use.  Purchasing this kit at the beginning of the month will actually get you through the entire month of creating for the season and celebrations for that month.

I used the prompt from Day 22 from the LayOut A Day (LOAD) Challenge from Scrap Happy to create the page I’m sharing here.  This page prompt was to include an amusement park experience.

I have added a few extra ephemera pieces to this page.  The October kit is a fall themed kit and this is very clearly a summer photo. I supplemented with some ephemera sets that I recently got from Scrapbook.com that include the Pinkfresh Everyday Musings, Fancy Pants Designs A Cherry On Top, and Jen Hadfield Chasing Adventures ephemera. I also added some Colorful Thickers.

I absolutely love the papers on this layout!

I used two of the papers in the kit by tearing one and adding it to the left side of the second one which I used to create my layout on.  I added two rectangles of the Cozy Days paper in the kit.  The pieces are actually the A and B side of the same sheet of paper.  I wanted some yellow on the page, so by adding the floral piece, that allowed me to pull in the yellow so that it made sense with the pink and blue of the papers I used as the base.

I decided to use 2 copies of the same photo here.  I printed a color version and a black and white version.  This is a design choice that I am CASEing from Tazhiana Gordon who did a presentation at the ScrapSmarter event that I attended in September. I loved the look and thought it was a great way to highlight a fun photo in an interesting way.

I added a yellow mat around the colorful picture and no mat around the black and white photo.  I also added a nice die cut sentiment in gray and white next to that black and white photo.  I love that it overlaps to the base pink page where I added some bright pink puffy hearts from the Colorful thickers pack.

I carried those bright puffy hearts around the page to help your eye move from one ephemera cluster to the next.  I added a couple of florals here in the rusty red and navy colors in the floral paper, and one with gold metallic details.  I like a little sparkle or shine on my pages.

Above the photo, I used lots of fun elements.  I pulled out some tickets from the Fancy Pants set, added some labels with sentiments and circular elements from the PinkFresh set, and I added the gold cityscape from the Jen Hadfield set.  Here you can see the puffy sticker title and more of those hot pink hearts.

I finished off the top corner and include some of the colors from the other elements along with a couple of those hot pink hearts.

I added two yellow tickets from my stash and in hindsight, I wish I had ink blended some darker yellow distress oxide on them to knock down the brightness of them.  I may go back and do that because it feels like a neon yellow sign to me!!

I am really enjoying this kit and I plan to subscribe next month for at least a 3 month period just to really try it out and to get a discount of $5 a month for subscribing for at least 3 months.  I would also love to get a fresh kit of goodies to try out as I’m just getting back into the memory keeping and I don’t really have much left in my scrapbooking stash.

Plus, who doesn’t love a wonderfully curated kit?

I’m also assuming that it will be a long winter without being able to go browsing in an actual craft store, so having a box of goodies arrive once a month for less that $30 will be a nice treat.
