Yesterday was all work and no play and today was all play an very little work!
I managed to squeeze in two loads of laundry and some house cleaning in between my card making today.
I made a pile of cards:
I played with 3 stamp sets and several dies today. I also played with some crazy color schemes!
I started the day thinking that I wanted to make a variety of things with the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlets Die. Dies cost a good chunk of change and they add so much to a card. I thought I might make several cards with at least one technique to show you what you can do with them.
I got distracted by the Fab Friday color challenge, so two of my cards were playing with the colors. I am easily distracted.
This was my first card. There are actually a couple of techniques in this card. I wanted to show you an inlay technique that is just so wonderful with die cuts like this. This technique works well with sentiments dies also.
You can see that I cut this out in two colors and then placed the lighter cut out into the negative space of the darker paper. I’ve used Powder Pink and Berry Burst here.
I was playing around with using the Picture Perfect Designer Paper behind the Bloomin’ Heart when I decided that I would do a watercolor background in Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Peekaboo Peach. Those are 3 of the colors in that designer paper. That paper inspired my color choices today.
Check out the background here:
Isn’t that combination pretty with the Bermuda Bay and the Berry Burst card stock?
I can’t stop watercoloring! I’m playing with all kinds of techniques and trying some of my own things. It just adds such a great touch and it certainly makes for beautiful backgrounds on cards.
I put lots of detail on this card. I used the little flower dies to add some dimension, some silver thread for texture, and of course my favorite Glitter Enamel Dots. I really like the way this card turned out.
My next combination was the Fab Friday Color Challenge 128.
While this is no winning card, I actually had a lot of fun playing with this combination. That Lemon Lime goes with everything!
I love these sentiments and I think they allow these cards to be used for more than just Valentine’s Day. One comes from the new Petal Palette set and the other from the Sure Do Love You set. Both can be found online at mystampingstore.com.
Here is the card I’m submitting for the challenge.
This card has a lot less dimension than the first card. Instead of using the small flower dies that come with the bloomin’ heart, I used a white gel pen to add a few details. This time I also used the same sentiment (those are embossed with clear embossing powder on both cards to make them stand out). Here I added that fabulous silver berry burst ribbon folded a couple of times behind the sentiment.
Behind the heart is a little more watercoloring. This is simply emerald envy quickly swished on with an aqua painter. I wanted it to be fast and I left a lot of the lemon lime card stock showing through. It’s almost like an animal print…in super crazy colors.
A lot less detail, but I’m still please with the overall result. I made a small card with the leftovers…I kept this simple.
Not a lot of extras here, but that sentiment really pops with the ribbon under it centered on the heart. I ended up really liking this color combination!
I’m still not finished! Here is a super simple card I made with some of the leftovers:
Again, nothing fancy, but quick and easy to create and I know someone will be happy to get this in the mail. That bloomin’ hearts thinlets die is so detailed you don’t need to do a lot to have a card that looks like a lot of work.
Two things I did that made cutting this out with my Big Shot easier, I added the Sizziz double sided adhesive to the back of my card stock before cutting and I used the Precision Base Plate instead of a bottom cutting plate. That plate is like a miracle! These detailed dies pop right out. I also use the Big Shot Die Brush and foam pad as well.
Heart Happiness
My next card was created for my niece who just had surgery yesterday. I used the Heart Happiness stamp set…this is a fabulous set. It has heart of all shapes and sizes.
All of those hearts are from that one stamp set! There are 10 other heart images in that set.
The set has no sentiment, so I grabbed my My Favorite Things Die-Namics Hugs word die. I scribbled in a variety of pinks going from light to dark on a piece of white card stock. Then I added the double sided adhesive on the back and cut out the hugs sentiment.
Isn’t is pretty? Considering how quickly you can do that technique, it looks almost variegated. I love that script die.
The heart above the ribbon is my favorite stamp in that set. I again colored it with my markers in shade of pink and purple and cut it out with the coordinating thinlets set.
Love, love, love this one.
Concord & 9th Free Heart Die
I got a free die from Concord & 9th when I placed an order a few weeks ago and I couldn’t resist pulling that out. It actually has 3 dies in one. These cards are created from the die, no stamping was involved (with the exception of the sentiment on the small card)!
I couldn’t resist doing this in a traditional red and white. The heart embosses as you cut for that fabulous sewn look. It also has a border piece that is separate and the LOVE letters. What a great freebie!! So many ways to use this come to mind. I will be playing with that one more!
I had a very relaxing day today. I hope you can find time to craft if only for some down time. We all need it!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
OK, I LOVE the cards you made for our color challenge – amazing! The inlay is totally gorgeous, I can;t wait to try this! I was always kind of lukewarm about this die, but you’re making go back for more looks! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!
Thanks Heather!!!
