Organizing: The Devil Is In The Details

We got hit with a blizzard today so I had the gift of a snow day which I spent in my craft room…not crafting!

Instead, I elected to get one more spot organized.

This is my cutting station.  I like having a separate spot for my Big Shot and Cricut.  You can see the shelves that my husband put up for me last month and the Stamp-n-Storage stamp holders that he hung on the wall.  I essentially have 3 stock cabinets from Lowes Home Improvement store and  12 feet of stock counter top.   You can see just one part of the countertop here.  The blue cabinet is one that was in my son’s bedroom in our old house that I got from clearance at Home Decorators.  I also have some old toy shelves that are storing yet more stamp sets.

I love that blue storage piece.  It tucks under the counter nicely and the two drawers hold all my Big Shot tools and plates.  The storage bins hold other tools and seasonal dies and embossing folders.  It is just perfect there.  My sister will tell me that I should paint everything white to give the room a clean cohesive look, but I will be leaving that piece blue.  I like it that way.  Craft rooms should have color and they should look like you actually use them.

I’ve never figured out how people have craft rooms where you don’t see crafting supplies.  They look amazing those rooms and tidy.  But they also look like nobody crafts there.  How do they do that?

I was not born organized and I will not be having a contractor come in to give me the perfect room.  I like these old furniture pieces.  They all have memories attached.

On the left side of the countertop you can see my die and embossing folder storage that I really worked on today.  I created labels and dividers for this area and I feel like it will be much more functional now.

The amazing thing is that every tool has a place and it is all easy to find.  I’m really happy with how this came out.  It is totally functional!  Function is everything for me.

I also organized all my non-Stampin’ Up! stamp sets with labels and dividers as well.  I look forward to sharing more details about that in a future video and blog post.

Tomorrow I am going to finish my sewing area which is to the right of the cutting station on the rest of the countertop.  I love to sew, so I will always need a place for my machine and fabrics.

I also plan to finish organizing my scrapbooking and memory keeping supplies tomorrow.

Every little bit helps!  I have just a few more boxes to unpack and lots more organizing to do.  I’m thinking I would have a lot more space if I consolidated those retired stamps (which I still use) into the same system that I am using for my non-Stampin’ Up! sets.  I bought the storage pockets and bins to do just that and I’m thinking that will be my chore this weekend…and maybe the next few as well!

I will share more tomorrow and hopefully, I’ll have time to make a video and a fun project or two!
