Altenew Educator Certification Program: All About Layering 2

By | 02/14/2018

It’s in the details.

How many times have I said that before?

I had one of those, “DUH!”, moments today while creating my card.  I just finished the All About Layering 2 class for Altenew Academy and I really wanted to play with my Peony Bouquet stamp and die set.

I spent some time playing with the stamp layering and colors to find one that felt right today.  I finally settled on a combination of Paper Bag, Caramel Toffee and Warm Sunshine.  (I feel in desperate need of Warm Sunshine this winter.)

I had my card layout planned in my head.  I wanted to stamp a couple of the complete flower image in black on white card stock and leave them without any color.  Then I wanted to create some leaves and a couple of the large peony images to pop up on foam tape with my colored layers added on.

I pulled out the die set and realized that it was not for the Peony Bouquet, it was for the Peony Scrolls set.

Ugh.  This meant fussy cutting out my flowers and leaves and it means that now I need the Peony Scrolls stamp set and the Peony Bouquet die set!

After the fussy cutting and grumbling that went with it, I put my card together.

Stamping Imperfection All About Layering 2

The bottom peony is lighter because I decided to stamp it off.  I wanted the flower in front to be a little brighter.  I added some clear Wink of Stella to add sparkle and to really make the colors pop.  I used the Wink of Stella to add a few splatters of sparkle and then I added some Warm Sunshine splatters with a wet paint brush as well.

I decided to stamp a bold sentiment from the Adore You stamp set directly on to the background images.  I figured that if I hated it, it would be easy to cover with an embossed sentiment on black card stock.  I liked the way the bold image looked over the black and white background.  It allows for my two colored peonies to be the real star of the show on this card.

I used a black card base to keep the black and white feel.  The final touches are the clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh.  They look like water drops in person.

I have to tell you that I am looking forward to this weekend!  I’m planning on getting some videos made to get my YouTube channel going again.  I miss making videos and I can’t wait to share some of these fabulous techniques that I’ve been learning and practicing.  I feel like the week is dragging because I’m so looking forward to that!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by!  Happy crafting and remember to embrace the imperfections!Altenew Academy
