Stampin’ Up! carries some fun kits for scrapbooking, card making and gift giving. Every now and then I love to make a kit because they are quick and easy. Sometimes I follow the kit directions and other times, I do my own thing with the kit. I did a bit of both with the Boutique Boxes kit in the Spring Catalog.

I used the basic kit parts, but instead of making a bunch of little boxes, I created a couple of gift card holders, boxes oriented in different directions and one large box putting two box templates together. The only extras I added included ribbon, baker’s twine and a flower from the Pop-Up Posies Kit (#131395). The Boutique Boxes kit can be purchased separately (#129306) or as a bundle with A Little Greeting Stamp Set (#129111). The bundle product number is (#131104).

This was a fun little craft, as was the Pop-Up! Posies kit. It’s the kind of thing you can make on the coffee table while you are watching a movie. Most of the time, I enjoy getting lost in the creative process of designing a card or project from scratch. I do enjoy modifying kits or seeing what I can do with them beyond what they are created for.

This kit would be perfect to tuck little favors in or a few pieces of candy. You actually end up with 8 little boxes if you use the kit the way it was intended. They would be perfect gift card holders as well.

I like to keep craft kits around because I like to have a stash of things to entertain my kids with. At least…when they were younger! I would pull out the box of craft kits and they would each pick something to make. We would spend a creative afternoon together chatting and creating. To this day, my daughter still likes to keep craft kits on hand so she can spend an afternoon creating and relaxing. She lives in a college dorm, so space for storing craft supplies is limited. A kit with everything she needs to complete a project is the perfect solution. She has a little box with scissors, adhesives and things like that in case she needs them. Just realize, that once you start your kids crafting, they will be crafters for life!
