I signed up for Mindy Baxter’s September Copic Coloring class and we are making 4 card fronts. She gives us the images and then in a series of short videos, she demonstrates how to color each different part. Then she shows you how to create a background scene around the image.
It’s so much fun and I love that I now have all these background techniques that I can use to add to other images that I’m coloring on my own. I take ideas from several of the classes I’ve done to create my own backgrounds and it’s so nice to be able to do that.
About 3 years ago, I realized that I really wanted to try for a spot on some stamp company design teams so I researched how to go about doing that. I’ve been on a few challenge design teams and I’ve enjoyed them immensely. They are fun, you make a lot of friends, and you always have something to post on your blog!
I want to be on company design teams in hopes of growing my audience for my blog and for my YouTube channel. It’s also nice because they often send you the new monthly releases or at least parts of them.
I quickly realized that I would never get on a company design team without being able to watercolor or color with Copics. Coloring skills and watercoloring skills are essential these days. A few years ago, you just needed to make pretty cards and projects using a nice variety of techniques and materials. Now you really need specialty coloring skills.
I searched for some classes that I could take online that I could squeeze in around work and family obligations and started the long process of practice, practice, practice! I still take classes because I love them and even if I learn one new thing, it’s worth the price of the class. I really love Mindy Baxter’s classes. She has a blog called My Creative Scoop and she offers 1 class a month plus you can purchase any previous classes that she still have available.
When I retired in December and we got settled in our new place in Florida, I felt ready to find some design teams to apply for. I was delighted to be invited to join Kinda Cute by Patricia. I absolutely adore her digital images and she is so wonderful to work with as is the design team. Then a month later, I got invited to join the 7 Kids Craft Store YouTube Design Team and I am really enjoying that. I love the line of stamps that 7 Kids Craft Store comes out with each month. I’ve had a lot of fun playing with those cute faeries and kids. Creating the scenes and cards for that has been a lot of fun. Plus Kelly Neis who owns 7 Kids Craft Store is wonderful as is the rest of the design team.
But I really needed to know how to color or watercolor!
I was pleasantly surprised to get an email a few weeks ago to join the Scrapping 4 Fun Challenge blog for the 4 month fall term. That team has sponsors so they gave us a digital image for each of the challenges and they are so much fun! I can’t wait to share the projects I’ve created with those digis with you!!
I’m going to keep practicing. I have some fun design teams that I am a part of now and I’m absolutely delighted! It’s keeping me so busy!!
I just love this little guy. Mine turned out different than Mindy’s, but I’m quite pleased with the result. I had so much fun that I pulled out another little gnome digital image that I had and created a project with that. You will see that on the 25th of September!
I’m also ready to share some Copic coloring videos with you. I also want to start sharing more of my own images and watercolors. I have a lot of things to do and share! I hope you are enjoying it all!!
I will have another 7 Kids Craft Store Video for you on Saturday. I can’t wait to share another fun project with you!
Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day and be well!
Hi Kim I am just catching up. Been a busy 2 weeks (good busy). Congrats on getting on these design teams. It is so great to hear that your retirement plans are becoming a reality. You are such a talented crafter and love how you share everything. So thank you for that. I see that you posted the gel press technique and I can’t wait to sit and read that post. Enjoy these beautiful days and stay well!
Anita
