Trends In Card Making: Colorful Side Strips and Rounded Corners!
There are two trends in card making that I have to admit to being slow to embrace. Both are simple and both have grown on me!
The first is to add a simple rounded corner or two to the bottom of the card. I used my Project Life corner rounder and I kept my cards very simple.
This is the Many Merry Stars stamp set. Two colors: Silver Encore and Lost Lagoon and one embellishment: a rhinestone. The rounded corners adds the final touch. Simple and elegant.
Here is another one…for me, this one is screaming for a bow!!!
This is the Letterpress Winter stamp set in Pool Party and Island Indigo. Again, I added the rounded corners. Perhaps if I had centered the image on the card front, I might not feel the need to fill the bottom with a bow or ribbon in the bottom 3rd of the card! It doesn’t feel finished!
Here is the side strip example:
This is the Many Merry Stars stamp set and the Watercolor Trio greetings set. The side strip is embossed foil. I’ve used night of navy and basic gray ink. Simple. This card actually feels more balanced to me.
This is Letterpress Winter set again in Pear Pizzazz, Pool Party and Island Indigo. You can see the Washi tape side strips on both sides of this center panel. Notice the center panel is the entire length of the card.
Finally…my favorite:
Washi tape again gave me my colorful side strip. This time I added a Night of Navy mat and ribbon. The stamp set is Many Merry Stars and Christmas Bliss in Night of Navy and Marina Mist. One simple rhinestone finishes off the card.
Five quick and simple cards with the quick and easy layouts. Think about how you might step up these cards to make them more complex or give them more of a WOW! factor!
