Do you ever purchase a stamp and die set on a whim, just because you like a sentiment or a specific die in the set?
I did that with the Twisted in Time bundle which was one of Stampin’ Up!’s Online Exclusives recently. I love the twisted tree die. I think that will be great on projects for Halloween and Fall. I also loved the stamp itself and thought it might make pretty cards.
I made a card today that is not at all the card I had in my head when I started my project today. This card evolved along the way.
I actually really love the way this card turned out.
I wish that I had snapped a picture of the panel when I stamped the tree. It was like a tree hanging out in air on that plain white piece of card stock.
My point: You need to anchor an image like this. One easy way to do that is to use a light gray colored pencil, alcohol marker, or ink spritzed with water and a water brush. Add the color around the roots of the tree in a triangle shape. The wider side of the triangle should be at the base of the tree and the point should be pointing to the bottom of the panel. Keep the color light and the triangle a loose triangle. Like triangle-ish. This gives it a faux shadow feel and makes it look okay on the plain white panel.
I didn’t do that! Instead, I decided to give it a rolling lawn. I used my Stampin’ Blends. I added some Dark Mossy Meadow swipes with the brush end and then filled in with the Light Mossy Meadow. I stopped a little from the bottom and pulled out the Old Olive Blends and finished the bottom first with a few dark swipes and then the light ones to fill in. It gave the grass a nice variation in color. That is always my goal with Stampin’ Blends. I want you to see light and dark spots.
I added a few grassy sprigs with my Bronz Blend around the base of the tree as well.
For my sky, I stamped the cloud stamp from the Pick a Season SAB FREEBIE stamp set. I used the Beige ink for the clouds. Then I smooshed my Balmy Blue ink pad onto my glass mat and spritzed the ink with water. I used a Water Brush to swipe the watered-down ink onto the sky area in long sweeping strokes.
My sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso like the tree trunk. The leaves are stamped in Old Olive. I finished it with 3 gold Low Profile Dots and some Baker’s Twine.
