A Great Scrapbook Layout

By | 01/11/2013

Not only can you participate in weekly card sketch challenges at Paper Craft Crew, you can participate in monthly scrapbook page sketch challenges!!!  I love this.  I have not created many scrapbook pages since my kids started college!  I have all of the high school graduation pictures to get into albums along with those first days of college when we moved them into their dorms!

mikey college 2013a2I love scrapbooking.  I actually started scrapbooking long before I started stamping.  My daughter and I used to go to crops on a fairly regular basis from the time she was 9 or 10 through about 9th grade.  At that point, we were so busy with sports, music and school activities that we didn’t have time to get together with the ladies to scrapbook.  That was when I started doing more rubber stamping and going to stamping events.

This month’s Paper Craft Crew scrapbook sketch challenge was a nice simple layout.  I love the circles.  I chose to use a picture of my son taken on the day we moved him into college this year.  What a gorgeous day and what a gorgeous place.  How pretty is the Hudson Valley?  The view he has walking around campus can only be described as stunning!

I used an 8 x8″ piece of the Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper from the Sale-a-bration flyer.  You will have a chance to get this for free when Sale-a-bration starts!  I love this paper.  It coordinates so well with Midnight Muse and Lucky Limeade, which are the two papers that I created the circles from.  I created my title on My Digital Studio.  I have fallen in love with making titles and captions using the fabulous fonts I have available on that.  No more trying to line up stickers or die cut letters!

Beyond that, I used two different sized circle punches to create my circles for layering.  I also used the old Stampin’ Up! giant circle maker for the background circle mat.  It didn’t require a lot of materials to create a fabulous page that made my photo the focal point.

I always think that the journaling should be hand written.  It is really a personal preference and I do have pretty nice handwriting, especially for a lefty!  I think that my handwriting is something that my kids will look at someday and cherish.  I have an album that my arthritic and very crippled grandmother created for me.  When I look at that shaky handwriting and realize the hours that it must have taken her to do that given the advanced arthritis she had and how painful it must have been, I realize how much she loved me and how much she wanted to create that album for me.  I feel blessed and loved!

My challenge to you:

Take just 30 minutes this week to create some scrapbook pages!  If you do that just twice a month, you can create two scapbooks by the end of the year!  Need some help getting started?
