The more I use digital stamps, the more I love using them.
I’m feeling even more that way as I pack up my craft supplies for our move to Florida. Digital stamps require no packing!!
I was excited to get invited to participate in the Star Stampz Challenge Blog Design Team. Today is my first project share as a part of that team. The theme for the challenge is a Winter no Christmas challenge for the month of November.
There are several adorable digital stamps in the shop that work for a winter theme that aren’t Christmas related. I selected the Cup of Cocoa digital image to use for my project today.
If you have been following me for a while, you know that I am now addicted to my traveler’s notebooks. I completed a summer one and I have a few pages left in my fall one, so this seemed like the perfect time to create a winter one.
My stash has a drawer full of these little notebooks with grid paper inside and craft covers. I’m finding them to be the perfect size for my traveler’s notebook projects. This time, I’m only creating the cover. I will select the inside papers as I create the pages. The first two notebooks that I create, I added pretty patterned papers before I started using the journals and then found it challenging to actually create pages that coordinated with my photos and the small supply of ephemera and things that I had on hand.
To create this journal, I colored in the digi of this adorable girl holding her cup of cocoa. Once I had her colored with my Copics, I cut her out with my Brother Scan-n-Cut.
You will find my Copic color combinations below! The Scan-n-Cut allows you to decide whether you want to leave a border around your image or whether you want to cut it right around the edge of the image. I selected the smallest border size. I like the border in most cases. You can also select larger border sizes as well. The smallest one works perfectly and I think it looks really nice.
I used a fun die that I had in my stash from Sunny Studio Stamps called Woodland Borders to die cut the snowy hills and the pine trees. I used plain white cardstock for the hills and a nice deep green patterned paper with subtle writing for the trees. You can also see that I die cut the winter title for my cover with a pretty blue sparkle paper and a die set from Tim Holtz Sizzix called Season’s Greetings Thinlets.
I added those on top of a gorgeous piece of patterned paper from a 6 x 6″ pad of Echo Park Winter Magic paper. I loved this set and bought the Winter Magic Collection for my winter scrapbook kit. I had no Christmas or winter papers left in my stash at all so I treated myself to this collection of blues, browns, and whites. I’m loving the torn edge on papers lately. You have no doubt seen them showing up on a lot of my scrapbook layouts!
I also pulled a snowflake stencil from my stash that I believe is from an old Simon Says Stamp kit. I used the Brutus Monroe glitter glaze in the fallen snow color to add a few of them to the front of the cover. I really like how that sparkle in white looks on the craft journal cover.
Once I adhered my papers to the journal cover, I added some black twine from Catherine Pooler and an old snowflake bauble that I had in my stash. A nice blue clip finished it off and it is all ready for me to use as soon as I finish my fall journal!
After browsing the Star Stampz store, I think I’m going to have a hard time picking which digi to use next! The challenge lasts a month, so you have plenty of time to participate. You don’t have to use a Star Stampz image to play along, you can use any stamp that works with the theme. You have a month to add your link to the challenge and play along! You can also create any kind of project, it doesn’t have to be a card. I’m loving that I can branch out and do more than just cards. I love applying my skills and my stash to a variety of projects.
