I found this weeks Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge to be an honest challenge! I wanted to create a birthday card using Stampin’ Up!s Best of 25 Years January Stamp Set which is all about birthdays! The sketch contained an oval. It made me realize that I like using circles and rectangles in my cards more than ovals. I’m not an oval!
Yes…that’s Blooming with Kindness. You know how I am. I get a new stamp set and I just can’t stop using it. Until the next one gets here!! I just love the big graphic flower in this set. There is something about a giant graphic flower that calls to me. I remember as a little girl, Dad was paneling my bedroom and putting a new floor in (hey, it was the 70’s! People put paneling everywhere!). He selected this dark brown paneling with giant yellow and white graphic flowers in it. I have loved giant graphic flowers ever since! Yes…my house is filled with giant floral patterns! As you can see, I also love to use them in my cards! The colors for this card were inspired by the Designer Series Paper that I selected. I LOVE this DSP! This is the Tea for Two DSP (#129311) from the Spring Catalog. It just feels like an old vintage newspaper, except with touches of fabulous colors. According to the catalog, the colors used in this DSP include Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso! Those are the inks and papers that I used in this card! You will notice that there is a touch of Crumb Cake as well. I did use 3 stamp sets for this card. I used the flourish from Everything Eleanor (#124164) in Crumb Cake for the base of my oval. I know. I can’t put this set down either. That flourish stamped in Crumb Cake just makes a fabulous background image. The flower is from the Blooming with Kindness (#126422) and is stamped in Calypso Coral. Isn’t it fabulous?! That was a rhetorical question. Of course it is! I cut this out with the Oval Framelits (#129381). You can see that I used the framelit in the next size up to frame it with Early Espresso. I love framelits because it is so easy to create a mat or frame just the right size. I also used the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder (#127751) to emboss the strip of Early Espresso. I used one of the larger Soda Pop Tops (#129388) and flattened it in my Big Shot (#113439) using my platform and cutting pads, but no tabs. The flower inside is from Everything Eleanor stamped in Island Indigo. I glued that down with the liquid Tombow glue and added a large rhinestone (#129324). The Happy Birthday stamp was stamped twice, once in Island Indigo and once in Lucky Limeade. I punched them out with the extra large oval punch (#119859) and then cut out the birthday from the blue image and layered it on top of the green image. I also added one tiny piece of lace with a knot that I had left over from the Artisan Embellishment kit (#129328). That kit has made an amazing number of projects!!!! Finally, I also added a Paper Doily (#129399) sponged in Crumb Cake, So Saffron, and Early Espresso to give it an aged look. Here is the original sketch from the Paper Craft Crew Challenge.
