The challenge this week for the Paper Craft Crew is to create a simple single layer card that a beginner could make with minimal supplies.
This card used a precut and pre-scored notecard in white card stock, a bone folder (although not necessary), a black ink pad, a stamp set and a clear block.
That is it!
The notecards are from Catherine Pooler Designs as is the clear block, the stamp set is the Flower Vine set from Altenew, and the ink pad is from Simon Says Stamp.
I love black and white cards. I often find that they can be very elegant in their simplicity.
Now…let’s take it up a notch and add some simple color and dots.
Nothing fancy used to color and no techniques to shade or do crazy stuff.
This used 3 Flair markers. I could only find pink, purple, and green. Just what I needed!
To step it up a notch I added some dots in white gel pen on the flowers and in a black marker randomly around the image. It’s a little personal touch and I like it.
I could have added more hand drawn details like swirls, Zentangle details, lines on the leaves…you get the idea. Hand drawing things does require some bravery that a lot of beginners aren’t comfortable with. So I just stuck to dots.
Finally…my favorite detail is a hand drawn border. No ruler. I love the imperfection of this look. It just makes me happy!
Quick, simple, easy…a great beginner card no matter which level you choose!
Stamp set selection does matter. I picked a stamp set with two images and lots of sentiments for a variety of occasions. I get a lot of use out of this set and you could learn lots of techniques just using this one set.
