It seems to be that time of year when you see the flamingos everywhere. Several new stamps have been released with these fabulous birds as their main image. I still couldn’t resist buying Catherine Pooler’s new Stamp of Approval Tropical Paradise set.
The fantastic set of leaves and fronds along with the amazing sentiments just called to me. They were screaming, “This must go on some scrapbook pages!”. I’m not kidding!
This picture makes me so happy. Last summer, my husband and I made the trek to Ann Arbor, Michigan (a good 13 hour drive or so from eastern Long Island). Then we went to the Ford Factory and Museum in Deerborn, which was totally amazing. If you love places like the Smithsonian, you will love that place. We are real museum and factory tour geeks. Then on to Mackinac Island, Michigan. This was a few more hours of driving but so worth the trip!
We rented bikes and rode around the island. It was either that or a horse drawn carriage. This is an island where motorized vehicles are not allowed. It was great fun and an easy ride of about 8 miles. We had a cool, overcast day and I think our daughter loved being the center of our attention and adventure for those few days.
About my scrapbook page:
This page is inspired by a previous page that I made of using a photo of my Dad using some Altenew stamp sets that you can see HERE. I was taking the Stamps Meet Scrapbooks class with Lilith Eeckles at Altenew Academy. I loved that class. The first lesson was all about creating your own background papers with your stamps. Then use your stamps and dies to create your own embellishments. Use your inks for a background technique on the 12×12″ paper base and then add some of your favorite sentiments for that “VOILA!” moment.
Here, you can see that I pulled out 3 fabulous stamps and inks from Catherine Pooler Designs. I used Tiki Torch with the Good Vibes Borders stamp set. I LOVE that Good Vibes sentiment. It was just so perfect for conveying the feelings we all had that day relaxing and exploring together.
Then I used the Fiesta Blue with 2 of the floral images from the Tropically Yours stamp set. I created some extra pieces to die cut and use as embellishments for my page. I added some Coral Cabana to the centers and on one of the florals.
I also used some Eucalyptus for the leaf images from the Leave Me In Paradise stamp set. I also created a few extra to die cut and I added some Lime Rickey for a bright splash of color.
I used the smoosh watercolor technique for the background on my 12 x 12″ white base. That used the Coral Cabana, Lime Rickey, and Shea Butter for an additional tropical Vibe.
You can see I pulled two fabulous sentiments from the Fearless pursuit stamp set from this same Tropically Yours SOA collection. Oh, the sentiments in this collection! Just wonderful.
The only thing on this page not from the collection is the sequin embellishments. Those are Sparkling Sea Confetti from Studio Katia. I just wanted some more shade of blue with the lake behind us.
I added some marker lines with a new Pilot black fine liner pen. I did not try to make them straight. I like the look of imperfectly hand drawn lines. I also added my own handwritten date, place and people details. If you are a long time blog reader, you know that I think including your own handwritten notations or sentiments on your scrapbook layouts is really important.
I have a video on this. Thank you so much for stopping by. I really appreciate your visit. Please leave a comment and tell me what you have been up to in your crafty life these days!
