This month’s Challenge YOUrself scrapbook challenge is all about using butterflies on your layout and including a picture of YOU!

Challenge YOUrself May 25 scrapbook Challenge

I love a butterfly theme!  I am all out of scrapbook workshop kits, so I had to use random products from Stampin’ Up! to create a coordinating page with some DIY ephemera.

Florals in Bloom scrapbook layout from Stamping Imperfection

I was having one of those days today where I was feeling totally uninspired to be creative.

Whenever this happens, I start with a great sketch.  I immediately went to the May 2025 Pagemaps site and selected one of the new May 12 x 12″ sketch layouts.

I’m so happy I did that!  This layout really inspired me!

I used one sheet of the Florals in Bloom and a piece of 12 x 12″ Close to My Heart Harbour card stock.  I think this is a pretty great match for the new Secret Sea 2025-27 In Color from Stampin’ Up!  Since I can’t order the 12 x 12″ Secret Sea card stock until Tuesday when the new Annual Catalog goes live, I used what I thought would be closest from my stash.

I trimmed the Florals in Bloom DSP down to 10 x 10″ and then cut it into two pieces: 3 x10″, and 7 x 10″.  The sketch actually called for the busier paper on the bottom, but I really liked the busier paper on the top in this case.

I pulled out my Sketched Butterflies stamp set and stamped a line of the medium butterflies across a piece of 2 x 11″ Basic White card stock.  I fussy cut along the edge to create a fun border piece.  Then I filled in with the medium butterflies and then a few small ones.  I used Blackberry Bliss, Night of Navy, Petunia Pop, and Garden Green to stamp the butterflies.  Then I pulled out a Blender Pen and used Lost Lagoon, Misty Moonlight, Garden Green, and Bubble Bath to color in the butterflies.  I pulled the small splatter stamp from the Love & Strength set and stamped dots all over the border panel in the Secret Sea ink.Sketched Butterflies scrapbook layout DIY decorative border panel.

I really love the end result.  What do you think?

I popped the border up on some dimensionals, leaving space to tuck a piece of Bubble Bath card stock cut down to 4-1/4 x 9-1/4″ on top of the florals to serve as a mat to anchor my photos.

I also punched a 2 x 4″ piece of Petunia Pop using an old Tag Topper punch from my stash.  I stamped this in Petunia Pop and used the Elements of Text stamp set to create a tone-on-tone tag.  A 2″ piece of left over Florals in Bloom DSP is tucked under the tag and I tore the top to give it an interesting edge.  My Title and journaling card come from old Memories and More card packs.  The title sticker, journaling labels, sentiment strips and Love stickers all came from the Sweet Thoughts pack.  The journaling card is cut down from a 4 x 6″ card from the Remember this Moment pack.  The rest of the title is cut down from one of the Memories and More cards as well.

I also added sequins from the Sale-a-Bration Purple Sequins.  I added some black twine from my Baker’s Twine Essentials pack and a few more of the Secret Sea splatter dots around the page.

My photos are 3 of my recent favorite photos that my daughter has sent of her sweet daughter.  I just had to include some of them in my scrapbook!

Finally…I added some white gel pen detail to the edge of the dark 12 x 12″ card stock I used for the background.  I love how this highlights the edge of the layout, and it is a simple detail to add.

We would love to have you create a page and join the challenge.  You can easily join the challenge by adding your photo to the Challenge YOUrself Facebook Group page.

Supply List:

Many of the supplies I used are retired products.  I’m using my stash as much as I can these days so I get more for my crafty dollars this way.  The DSP will be available at ShopWithKim.net on May 6th when the catalog goes live.

The Love & Strength stamp set is still available, but the Elements of Text and the Sketched Butterflies have retired.  I have no doubt you have retired stamp sets in your stash that would work in similar ways to the sets that I have used here!

Thank you for stopping by!
