This month’s scrapbook challenge for the Challenge YOUrself scrapbook challenge is a black and white challenge…with a splash of color!
I love a black and white layout. It was a fun twist to be able to add a splash of one color.
Ordinarily with a black and white challenge, I would use black and white photos. This time, I decided to let the photos help me choose the pop of color I would use in my layout!
I picked orange! I decided to do a layout with our sweet granddaughter. I can’t believe she turned 1 this month! Time flies the second time through way faster that when the babies are your babies and you are doing all the work and losing all the sleep!
My daughter put her in a cute pumpkin outfit last fall and then a sweet peachy outfit on her 1st birthday. Of course this allowed me to pick orange…such a happy color!
I pulled out the black and white Botanical Texture papers that Stampin’ Up! had earlier this year. I still have most of that package left, so I pulled out 4 patterns that I really liked and used them all.
I also pulled out the Spotlight on Nature stamp set and stamped away behind my papers in black ink. I added 3 butterflies in Pumpkin Pie orange!
Then I went to my stash and pulled out some puffy letters, some foam hearts and a couple of orange ephemera bits that worked for the page.
I loved the end result. I included myself, as per the challenge, on the layout. I love the sweet picture of that tiny baby sleeping on my shoulder while I watched her for her working parents. Oh what sweet days I had snuggling my sweet girl! I held her as much as I could. I learned the first time through how all too fast, the snuggle days are over.
Now that snuggly baby has turned into an active toddler who walks and chats and has a personality all her own. I love it!
Time sure flies!
I also love that I didn’t need a scrapbook kit at all for this layout…thanks to my stash diving.
As long as you have background card stock, pretty patterned papers, stamps and ink…you have everything you need to put a pretty page together. ( Also…adhesive!)
I love adding some stamping to layouts. It always gives it an extra dimension that really makes it my own. One pretty stamp set can go a long way.
Had I not found the orange puffy alpha stickers in my stash drawer, I would have die cut some with one of the alpha die sets that I have and some Pumpkin Pie card stock from my stash. Ditto with the hearts, arrow, and the ephemera pieces. I do love to make my own ephemera. I just didn’t have to this layout!
I’m trying to do some stash busting and use the supplies that I have on hand.
