Digital Image: Seagull Fishing With A Dock and Lake Scene + FREE Digi

By | 08/25/2020

You know that I’m really enjoying being on the Kinda Cute Design Team because I get to play with the fabulous images created by Patricia Alvarez who I think is amazing and very funny.

I selected her Seagull Fishing image because it embodies my husbands days now that he is retired and it reminded me of a lot of the art that was for sale at the art shows on Pine Island over the winter when I could still go to the art shows.

I have previously shared that my goal was to have art created by local artisans or by me or any friend or family member that gifts us their artwork hanging in our little Florida cottage.  I didn’t want to buy art from a catalog or a big discount hobby store.  Our little cottage in New York has a lot of hand stitched art that my husband’s grandmother made and I love it.  I also have art created by local artists here.  None of it was expensive, but we love all of it.

One particular painting made me laugh so hard that I had to buy it!  I found an artist at a show in February and immediately fell in love with her work.  My husband and I decided we would each pick on of her prints (the originals were not in our little cottage price range!).  He picked one with a heron sitting on a sign in the water that said, “Slow Wake”.  This was because we are both working hard to slow down and enjoy these days after 40+ years of working.  I picked one with 3 pelicans sitting on a pier and she had painted the bird poop on the side of the dock.  I LOVED that painting!  So my card is a nod to that fabulous artist with the fun sense of humor!

I’m using coloring techniques that I learned from Mindy Baxter.  I actually added the dock, the lake, the shore, the sky and clouds.  The digital image is the seagull with the fishing pole and the fish.

How cute is this little guy?

My first version actually had darker wings and a darker tail end, but I didn’t love how stark it felt so I redid this version.

I added the Happy Retirement from the Trinity Stamps A Sentiment For (Almost) Everything stamp set using Altenew’s Obsidian black detail ink.
