Experimenting With DIY Layout Kits, Making My Own Embellishments, and Scraplifting!

Have you seen the newest edition of Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine? The spring issue is packed full of lots of beautiful inspiration. I couldn’t wait to scraplift Nathalie DeSousa’s double page layout! It was covered in florals with lots of empty white space on the pages.

I also recently received the Close To My Heart Cosette Scrapbooking Workshop Kit and it is a stunner. It has a very romantic vintage feel to it.

I’m trying something new this month: I’m making my own DIY Layout Kits from the Cosette Scrapbooking Kit. I find it overwhelming to have an entire kit in front of me when I want to create just a one or two page layout.

So far, I’m loving having the kits to narrow down the supplies in front of me when I sit down to create. It involved a couple hours of pre-planning, but it was so worth it for me. As a teacher, I am a planner by nature. I like to plan out my projects and anticipate what I need to do a task.

I created sketches for Nathalie’s layouts in Canva, then I selected the photos that I wanted for my layouts. I was able to print my photos on my Cannon Selphy in the sizes that I wanted for my layouts. The photos helped me figure out what story I wanted these two pages to tell in my album.

Once I had my photos, I selected the papers from the big kit along with the die cuts that I thought I might want to use. I also pulled out 4 or 5 stamp sets that coordinate with the Cosette kit and put those in a plastic bin to use for all my layout kits.

I spent some time stamping and coloring images. I ended up using the Daisy Meadow stamp and thin cuts set. I wanted more florals and I thought the florals in that set matched the papers really well. I have the TriBlend Deep Blends marker set and I found color matches that worked pretty well with the exception of the green!

I love how clean and simple this layout feels even with all the embellishments! I do love lots of layers!

You can see I stamped directly on to my background with the small filler stamps in the Daisy Meadows stamp set. I used the Mist ink to match the blue leafy paper.

I did add some black enamel dots and a wood cherish title piece to my layout. These are items that I had in my stash and wanted to use up.

You can see that I used more of my own stamped and colored images for this layout as well. The combination of stickers and die cuts from the kit plus my own handmade embellishments is one of my favorite ways to decorate my layouts!
