The July My Favorite Things Card Kit is called Flowers in Bloom and it has some fun Color Burst powders and watercolor papers from Ken Oliver. It also had a stamp and die set with some card stock as well.
The Color Burst Powders were a lot of fun to play with. I experimented with several ways to use them and decided to mix the powder with water on my craft mat and then use a brush to add it to my wet watercolor paper. I heat embossed my floral with Hero Arts gold embossing powder and used the resist technique.
I got a much more controlled result with this technique. When I added the powders directly onto the wet paper, I got powerfully deep colors. A little color burst powder goes a long way!
I loved this kit. The sentiments all have this fun script font that is so trendy right now. If only I could master that hand lettering technique!
The clear drops are from Studio Katia and they always add a fun touch to a card.
I used this week’s Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge to create the layout of my card.
It was tempting to use the sketch to do a clean and simple floral card with one of Altenew’s beautiful florals and a small sentiment across the center, but I really wanted to play with this card kit. I’m so glad I did! I can’t wait to try coloring these flowers with my alcohol markers!
