Many people tend to do gratitude journals in the fall around Thanksgiving. I think the perfect time to do one is at the beginning of a new year. We often spend time thinking about what we want to do differently and reflecting on what the previous year was like.
My Mom’s birthday is in January and I decided to make her a gratitude journal mini book. I haven’t done a book making project in a couple of months and I really enjoy them. I also created a set of writing prompts to go with the journal and I will find a pretty pen to include as well.
I will have a video tutorial later today, so make sure you check out my YouTube channel Sunday afternoon!
I used some pretty patterned paper that I got at Joann’s from DCWV called Preserved Paper. I love the papers for cut aparts and for mini books like this.
The base of my book is actually a chipboard insert that came in a new traveler’s notebook that I purchased on clearance. It made the perfect book base! I covered it with my pretty papers, added some elastic bands to hold the paper signatures that I created to serve as the pages of the book and some ribbon to tie it closed.
The decorative piece of the top is the Happy Bouquet Digital Flower Stamp from TLC Designs. I added the words in an elegant font and colored it with my Altenew Artist Markers. I added a soft yellow watercolor wash around the flowers and some blue and yellow splatters.
The shape of the tag and the mat behind it are cut from the TLC Designs See You in the Center Interactive Frame die set. I shared a project two weeks ago where I made interactive projects with the die set. Here, I’ve used the frames only. These may be my favorite frame dies that I have! I love them. I love the stitched detail and I love the shape. I also love that I got so many dies in the set that I have a ton of options for using this die set.
Here you can see that I used some pretty eyelets with my Crop-a-Dile to create a place to run the elastic bands through. You can also see the pretty paper that I used for the book cover and spine. I created the book to be used sideways so that it would be easier to write in.
I created an envelope from the scraps to hold the writing prompts. I did not attach them to the inside cover of the book because the paper was too pretty to cover and I didn’t want it to be lumpy to write in! You can see that I created 3 signatures with 6 pages in each.
Here are the writing prompts if you are interested in creating a gift or project like this for yourself: gratitude prompts
I left them as a Word document so you can modify them to fit your needs!
You can see just how pretty that digital image is. You could actually stamp one on each side with your sentiment in the center as well. Isn’t the shape of the frame pretty? I just love it!
