I was very excited to be invited to be a guest designer for the Not 2 Shabby shop for February!
Jamie sent me the stamp and die for the month of February called Spread Your Wings and I was very excited to play with it today.
I created 5 cards in total using this set with 2 techniques.
The first set of 3 use the heat embossing technique with white embossing powder on dark colors of cardstock. I chose black, bright pink, and navy blue.
I love the way these came out. This is a perfect stamp for this technique. I also find this to be a quick and easy technique to use. You simply stamp your image in Versa Mark ink. Then pour on white embossing powder, shaking off the excess. The final step is to heat set the powder with a heat tool.
So simple and so elegant!
Card Recipe:
Stamped panel in a dark color: 3-3/4 x 5″
Black or white mat: 3-7/8 x 5-1/8″
Card Base: 4-1/4 x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″
The last two cards use a very simple watercolor technique. I covered a piece of watercolor paper with water, dripped reinkers in Fiesta Blue, Catching Rays, and Samba from Catherine Pooler, I spritzed them with more water to keep the inks moving and mixing while tipping the paper and dabbing up the excess ink from the edges. Once the colors mixed to my satisfaction, I let the panel dry for about an hour.
Then I stamped my images in Catherine Pooler Midnight Black ink and die cut them out with the coordinating dies.
I added the butterflies and the sentiments, which I stamped in black ink on white cardstock and die cut out, with foam adhesive to add some dimension to the cards.
For the large butterfly, I used a blue piece of scrap cardstock cut to 2-1/2 x 3″ attached to a piece of black scrap cardstock cut to 2-5/8 x 3-1/8″.
The small butterflies got a background using a subtle cover die from my stash. I wanted to keep the backgrounds simple so that nothing would take away from the colorful butterflies!
I added a few sequence to these two cards to add some sparkle to finish off the last two cards.
