Mermaid Card And Faux Water Stencil Technique

By | 03/21/2021

Today, I have a super cute mermaid using the Just Us Mermaid digital stamp from Kinda Cute by Patricia.  I’ve created a faux water effect using a stencil technique that I thought worked until my husband said it didn’t look at all like water.

**Sigh**

I decided that I liked the card so I’ll share it with you!

This digital image is one of Patricia’s newer releases and I loved it as soon as I saw it.  I couldn’t wait to create a card with it.

I used the Sassy & Crafty Seeing Spots and Pawprints stencil pack to create my background, which I had hoped would look like water.

I started with a blue cardstock and then used the Seeing Spots stencil with Tumbled Glass distress oxide ink. I turned the stencil about 45 degrees and stenciled it again with Chipped Sapphire distress oxide ink.

I’m wondering if it would work better on white cardstock and turning it more times with more shades of blue.

I’ll try that tomorrow!

The sentiment is from Patricia’s Encouragement Sentiments basics set that she created for International Women’s Day and the blog hop we had a couple of weeks ago.  I love the sentiments in this set.  I can print out an entire page of them and cut them apart so they are all ready to go when I need an encouraging sentiment.

You can see the little mermaid is holding an octopus, a seahorse and I think the seahorse is holding a shrimp. They are all just so sweet!

What a sweet underwater scene Kim! I DO think it looks like water – the sort you’d get in a pool with all those light reflections! I do want to just mention to the mermaid that it’s not generally advisable to hug an octopus…!! Vicky x

Lol! I’m guessing an octopus would hug tight in return! Thanks so much!!
