New Challenge: Using A Color Palette to Create a Layout

This months Challenge YOUrself Scrapbook Challenge is a color challenge!

Challenge YOUrself Scrapbook Challenge

This is not a color palette in my comfort zone of creating.  I usually go for bolder color choices in the fall color tone family of colors.

This felt like a challenge until I pulled out the Designer Series Paper that I got as the Product of the Month from Stampin’ Up! a couple of months ago, for only $5!  The colors were perfect for this challenge.

My word of the year is Challenge…so I wanted to document the blanket that I made in January and February.  I challenged myself to learn a new granny square and to use only Dollar Tree yarn to make a blanket.

I learned how to make a solid granny square to make this blanket.  It’s actually easy and relaxing to make.  That turned out to be a very good thing because I ended up making 90 granny squares in total.

The yarn that Dollar Tree carries is Premier Just Yarn.  This is one of my favorite worsted weight years to crochet with.  It is 100% acrylic and very soft.  I spend about 6 weeks making a few granny squares each day.  Of course, I had several other projects going…including my very first adult sweater!

After getting the squares made, I crocheted a round of white Premier Just Yarn around each one, then slip stitched them together.

I added a couple of rows of single crochets around the whole thing to give it a border and finish it off.  It’s amazing!!!

MY SCRAPBOOK LAYOUT

I decided to document it in a layout and I thought the color palette of this challenge was great for the blanket.  I used an orange 12 x 12″ background and added some stenciling to give it some interest.  A layer of white card stock under the busy patterned paper felt appropriate too.  I like the contrast that gives between the orange and the other colors in the palette.

I pulled in more of the blue and pinks with my ephemeral pieces and photo mats.  My sentiment stickers and title pieces helped me get the yellow and the purple in there too.
