Old School Cardmaking With Some Mixed Media Twists

This week’s Make The Cards Challenge is an old fashioned challenge!

An old fashioned challenge

I’m going to perfectly honest and admit that I rarely used these items on my cards.  I used so much ribbon and buttons when I was with Stampin’ Up! that I am still tired of adding those to my cards.

Plus, it has been years since I actually purchased any of these items!

I do love to use cardstock layers, so I chose to use that item from the list!

An old fashioned challenge

I used a new stencil I purchased from The Crafter’s Workshop (TCW) to add some of the Picket Fence glazes in Teal, Leaf Green, and Golden Rose.

I love these glazes because they dry fairly quickly as far as that medium goes.  You can also see the beautiful color that those glazes give your card along with a nice metallic shine!

An old fashioned challenge

The sentiment is one of the preprinted cut apart sentiments from Simon Says Stamp.  These are handy to have on hand and they are foilable as well.

The little bear is from a Colorado Craft Company stamp set that I watercolored with my Zig Real Brush Markers.

An old fashioned challenge

I was careful to leave what I thought was a lot of color variation is this sweet bear, but as the image dried, the shades of colors actually got darker and less distinct.

I still love the final effect!  This bear is so sweet!

An old fashioned challenge

The little bear scene was stamped on to watercolor paper, colored, allowed to dry, then fussy cut out with no border.  I glued him to the front of the card after I created a background using Speckled Egg and Mowed Lawn distress oxides.  I left lots of white spaces in the sky because I really like that imperfect look it gives.

My final touch was to add 5 Crown Jewel Gems from Maker Forte’s line of embellishments!!
