I am thinking that I should have title this blog post “What I did wrong on the layout”. I’ll be telling you what I would have changed!
The theme for this month’s Challenge YOUrself Scrapbook Challenge is: Celebrate Love.
The new Hip Kit Club kit for January arrived on Friday. It’s fun changing things up and getting a scrapbook kit instead of a card kit. I will always love making cards, but I’m really happy to be scrapbooking again. That is what started me on my papercrafting journey! I got side tracked with card making!
The theme this month is to Celebrate Love and I decided to scrap some photos of my daughter and I from New York City. She gave me tickets to see Matilda on Broadway for a couple days after Christmas. The best part of the gift was the fact that she was also gifting me with her time. This was the gift of a day for us to take a train ride to the city where we could spend the day, see the tree in Rockefeller Center, have a meal or two, and see a great Broadway show!
I love being gifted experiences. I also love being gifted experiences in which the gift giver is giving me an experience that we will share together. That’s love!
I am not in love with this layout. It’s too busy. I felt like the papers in this kit were all either very busy or peachy pink. I loved this star pattern and really wanted to build my page on top of it.
In hindsight, I wish I had flipped the star paper and the peach base. I think I might have liked this layout better if I had added the photos and ephemera to a plain base. I did add a plain navy on top of it, but I’m wishing that I made that bigger or used a lighter color there.
The pretty ephemera gets lost on that busy paper. The amazing thing is that I loved the papers and the ephemera in the kit. I just wish some of the B sides of the paper had been smaller patterns in a bigger variety of colors.
Alas…live and learn!
As I use the rest of the kit, I will be more careful to have more “white space” with the plain paper so your eyes have a place to rest. That’s what this page really needs!
Thank you for stopping by! I would love any tips or advice that you have that you think might have improved the layout
Have a wonderful day!
