Take The Challenge With The Paper Craft Crew

By | 03/28/2018

Join this week’s challenge at the Paper Craft Crew.  It’s a two week challenge this time since it is spring break for a lot of schools and families.

It’s a pretty WOW! sketch created by Pam Staples this week.  It’s a fun one that you can get really creative with.

Stamping Imperfection Grateful Heart

Do you think that this card gives away the fact that I’m dying for spring to just get here already?

I just finished taking an alcohol marker class with Mindy Baxter at the Altenew Academy.  I’m truly a beginner with alcohol markers, so it feels a little like I’m hanging my dirty laundry in the yard for everyone to see!!

This is by no means a masterpiece.  You can tell it is the work of a beginner in the world of alcohol markers.

BUT NOW I’M HOOKED!

Dang!  This alcohol marker coloring is SOOO relaxing.  I didn’t put up a blog post last night because I spent my entire evening coloring flowers and leaves.  I. Could. Not. Stop.

Can you see that I even added some little dot details with my white gel pen?

While I know I have a long way to go to become an expert colorist, let me share the other techniques that I used on the card.

The images and sentiment are from Catherine Pooler’s Grateful Heart Stamp set.  How beautiful is the image and sentiment?  Do you see why I spent my evening playing with it?

The background is an ink blended stencil technique using the Altenew Watercolor Stripes stencil and Catherine Pooler’s Tiara ink.  Her inks blend so beautifully.  They are my favorite inks for blending.  I created a subtle ombre effect by making the lower left of the card darker than the upper right.

I made the next layer from the card sketch just plain velum.  I loved the stripes and did not want to cover them with a layer of paper.  The yellow is just so pretty.

The sentiment is stamped in black permanent ink and then in Versa Mark and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I love the shine this gives a sentiment and I love how the sentiment stands out with that technique.  I added a wash of Catherine Pooler’s It’s A Boy blue ink with a wet paint brush over the top.

All of the floral images are colored with Altenew’s Artist Markers. I popped the sentiment panel and all of the die cut images up on foam tape.  The sequins are from Neat & Tangled and it is the Fairy Garden Sequin Mix.

The stamp set is a new release from Catherine Pooler called Grateful Heart and it has a coordinating die set that lines up perfectly and cuts beautifully.

I know that all that floral might actually put this card over the top, but I couldn’t resist!!!

Here is this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch:

Paper Craft Crew Sketch 286

I eliminated a layer and added the top floral image.  I love changing a sketch to make it my own.  I love this sketch.  I think it is very trendy and I also think that it would make a great scrapbook layout.

Thank you for stopping by!  Happy crafting.  Don’t try alcohol marker coloring unless you want to get hooked!!!

Once again, I’m embracing the imperfections on this one!
