How often do you sit down with a card idea in your head and then the card just keeps evolving as you make it looking nothing like you wanted it to?
Today was just one of those days for me!
I was playing with techniques again just to experiment and see how some new colored pencils behaved. I was trying for a stained glass look and that is not what I achieved!
I thought that this month’s Altenew release was fantastic! While I only selected a couple of things, I couldn’t resist this Lace Up stamp set. One fabulous image and a ton of sentiments.
I had two things that I really wanted to play with today. I wanted to add colored pencils to dark card stock so I was trying out a new white ink from Hero Arts. This is their Unicorn Pigment Ink.
I also wanted to try out my Prismacolor Colored Pencils. They are actually watercolor pencils.
I actually masked off a square on the edge of my navy card stock and sponged on the Unicorn ink. I let that dry for a few days. It is a pigment ink and it needs time to dry. I stamped my image in permanent black ink and then colored away. I used an aqua brush to smooth out the coloring lines when I was done and let everything dry. Then I decided to go for the sparkle with my clear Wink of Stella. I added a gel pen outline and then decided that I wanted to add my sentiment in a similar fashion. I masked off a sentiment strip size portion at the bottom of the card and sponged on the Unicorn ink. After it was dry, I stamped the sentiment in permanent black and added a gel pen border along the bottom.
One thing that I would change the next time I did this is that I would use black embossing powder and heat set the stamped image. I think that it would be much bolder against the navy background. A white image might even have been better to heat emboss.
I’ve added some Studio Katia iridescent bubbles. These may be my favorite embellishment of all. So pretty.
While interesting, this is not my favorite card. I do love that stamped image though. It has so many possibilities!!
What I do love about this card is that sentiment strip with the gel pen border. That is a fun little touch and it balances the card.
Altenew never fails to release outstanding products. I liked this stamp set because it was different that anything I have. I love that Altenew really has a variety of great stuff in their line of products. Yeah Altenew illustrators and designers!
Thank you for stopping by! Happy fresh new week. Imagine the possibilities of all the things we can create and accomplish this week!
