I’m not afraid to tell you that this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch gave me a run for my money!!!
It was just packed full of details and I had so many ideas of what I might do with it…it was too much!
Here is what I ended up with:
I think I may actually be starting to figure out the lighting in my new craft studio. All my pictures have been coming out too dark. QVC to the rescue with some nice super powerful flashlights!
Isn’t the stamp set just the cutest thing?
It’s from Sunny Studio and it is called A Bird’s Life. It has a coordinating die set and a ton more images and sentiments than I have had time to use tonight.
I love the little stamp and die sets that this company has. They are not huge sets and they don’t cost a king’s ransom. I had to try a couple to see how I liked them.
I like them. Dang it! You know what that means!
I used my Stampin’ Blends to color these little birds, houses and the branch in. I also did a bit of ink blending on the background with the branch. I added a piece of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. The only embellishment that I’ve used is some linen thread.
I was actually afraid to add another thing. Less is more and you know how that one last detail can be one detail too much.
I struggled with this card, but in the end I actually like it.
I suspect that I will like it even more tomorrow when I’ve had some sleep and 24 hours has gone by. Cards always look better the next day. There is just something about all the time you spend fussing with the details that just makes you hate the card by the time you finish with it. A good night of sleep and some coffee will give me a fresh perspective.
Here is the sketch from the Paper Craft Crew Challenge for this week:
I just felt overwhelmed looking at that sketch. I did not feel like there was a focal point to focus on.
For my card, I wanted that cute little stamp set to be the complete focus of the card. I also can’t resist playing with inking techniques. I took that ink blending class and now I want to practice that every day.
Then there are those fantastic Stampin’ Blends that I can’t get enough of. Can you see the shading details in all of the stamped images? It’s just so fun to play.
I’m also trying to participate in the Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge. You should stop by that blog. Watch the video from day 1 of that challenge to see what that woman can do with ordinary Sharpies! Wow!
Her premise is that if you color for at least 10 minutes a day for 30 days, you will improve your skills.
We all know that’s true and we all know that somewhere during the day we can sneak in at least 10 minutes of coloring or lettering or whatever skill we want to improve at.
I look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow. It is day 3 of my die cutting class and I’m leaning some fabulous advanced techniques. As soon as I have time to practice them and make a few cards with them, I will share those with you.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
