New Card Sketch Challenge!

By | 06/16/2025

I have another interesting and challenging sketch from the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge for this week!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

This was a challenging sketch and a challenging layout!  I kept the number of rectangles to a minimal amount and tried to use a variety of sizes.  Here is what I came up with:Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

I found it very challenging to evenly space the rectangles and to get each one straight.

I used the Brights Designer Series Paper and added some journaling pen detail.  I used the Coastal Cabana paper, although this reads more like Pool Party or a minty green color in this photo.  The black lines in the leaves are actually journaling pen.  I wanted a little more black in my layout and I love this detail! I didn’t try to make them all look the same.  I just loosely scribbled twice around each shape. Once that was done, I cut my paper apart into a variety of sized rectangles, keeping them in the correct order to display my patterned paper.

After attaching them to a piece of Basic Black card stock, I really was unhappy with how the spaces looked uneven and some of the squares weren’t straight relative to the other rectangles.

Here is what it looked like at that point.  It just looked sloppy and there wasn’t enough distinct space between all the rectangles or along the edge.

THE SOLUTION:

To clean up my card layout, I pulled out my Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker and my t-square ruler and carefully added black lines over each space.  Here is the result of that:

This looks so much better, and the black lines make the whole thing POP more!  It was simple to do as well.

I also pulled out the Encircled with Love stamp set.  I selected this sentiment stamp because it added more of a marker look detail that worked with the other marker detail I added to the DSP.  I used the 1-3/4″ circle punch and the 2″ circle punch for my sentiment.

I added some twine and gold glitter embellishments to finish my card.

Don’t forget to use the markers you have in your stash!

I’ve got Stampin’ Blends, Stampin’ Write Markers, and Journaling Pens.  I use them all for lots of different details and color on my projects.  I spent my hard-earned cash on them, so I like to use them every chance I get!

That also goes for the White Gel Pens, the watercolor pencils, the pastels, the watercolor paints…the list goes on!

Don’t forget all those great tools you bought and have in a drawer or cabinet somewhere!

Please join us for the card sketch challenge this week!!

Happy Crafting!
