I love creating coasters from tumbled marble tiles. It’s a quick and easy project that makes a perfect hostess or housewarming gift. I’ve had some that I made when my son was in 1st grade and he’s a sophomore in college now. We use them daily! I decided to make a pair for each of my kids. Here is the set I made my daughter:
I could not resist this stamp! My daughter is a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering major who is taking Flight Dynamics this semester. I think the stamp is perfect for her!
You can find 4×4″ tumbled marble tiles in a box of 9 for about $5 at the home improvement store. I wipe them with a damp towel to remove the dust and then stamp my image with StazOn Jet Black Ink 101406, which is a permanent ink. It is perfect for this project! Allow the ink to dry or rush it along with your heat gun and then color it in with your chalks. Yes…chalks. Once I’m done adding color, I take them outside and spray them with a clear acrylic sealer. I give them at least two coats of sealer and then let them dry for a couple of days and you’re good to go.
The stamp I used is called the Hedgehopper from Penny Black. I just could not resist this stamp! My sentiment is from Loving Thoughts (#125845). My chalks are Stampin’ Pastels which Stampin’ Up! has discontinued. I’m sure any chalks will do. I’ve never tried markers, pencils or crayons. I bet the pencils would work well. I’m hoping Stampin’ Up! brings the chalks back in some form because they are so amazingly versatile and fun to stamp with!
I did not leave my son out! I created a set for him as well. One of our hobbies together is to watch Dr. Who. I tried to recreate the TARDIS in space. He appreciated the reference when I gave them to him…he got it! I couldn’t find a computer stamp. Yes, he’s a computer science major. Both of my kids are geeks. (Just like their parents!)
Here is a video I created to show the process! Enjoy!
Thank you so much for visiting! I hope that you enjoyed today’s project! I know that I should be making thank you cards. I will, I promise!
