Make The Cards Challenge: A Masculine Card

By | 03/22/2021

The new Make The Cards Challenge is a Masculine Theme challenge.  I’m making a non-traditional color masculine card for this challenge!

I decided to use purple for my card today.  When I was helping my son set up his first apartment, I was surprised when he chose a purple, gray, and black color scheme.  It was such a nice combination of colors and it looked amazing with the dark wood tones that he picked and the industrial details.

I used a fun stenciling technique for this card.  I added some Maker Forte Sugar Sparkle Coronation Purple glitter to some Ranger Texture Paste in transparent gloss.

The glitter paste was added over the Sassy & Crafty Phone Cord Stencil and allowed to dry.  (Remember, when working with pastes, you need to clean up your stencil, mat, and palette knife right away so that the paste doesn’t dry on your stencil and other tools.)Masculine challenge Make the Cards Challenge

While that was drying, I colored in this sweet image of these cute critters talking on the string phone from the Sassy & Crafty My Kind of Crazy stamp set.  (Remember doing that as a kid?  I do!)

I die cut the image out with my Brother Scan-n-Cut and added foam on the back.  I popped that onto the dry paste.  I added it to a piece of Coronation Purple card stock from Maker Forte and then the card base.

I used the sentiment “We’re like a small gang” and gave that a purple mat as well before adhering it below my image.

I added 3 sequins from a Sassy Pack of embellishments to finish off the card.Masculine challenge Make the Cards Challenge

This card is going to a very dear friend that I used to teach physics with for more than half of my career!  (He was my physics student at one time and then he student taught with me. We became fast friends as soon as we started teaching together!)  The two of us made up the physics department and we were very proud of our department!  His high school colors were purple and yellow and he often says that he “bleeds Porter Purple”.

He’s going to love this card!!  The fact that the critters are talking on a string phone and we taught an entire unit on waves is just a super fun touch!
