Playing with Techniques and Card Sketches

The Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge is out for this week and it’s another good one.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

This is one that I need to add to my card sketch recipe file for sure.

I had fun playing with this and I created two cards with this sketch using different techniques on each card.

I created the little bee card using the Meant to Bee scrapbook workshop kit and the coordinating stamp and die set.  It’s just so cute and I love this color combination for summer.

I pulled out the Good Times Ephemera pack and used several of the bits I found in that set.  You can see the cloud, the leafy stem, and the little daisy.  I like this set quite a lot.  They actually gave them an adhesive back this time which is really nice.Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

My sentiment came from the Wonderful Thoughts stamp and die set.  I love having a sentiment set that has a set of perfectly coordinated dies to go with it. That little bee is part of the Meant to Bee stamp and die set.  I used several new In Colors to stamp this one and I love the end result.

The embellishments are from the new In Color embellishment package.  I LOVE them!!

My background technique for this card follows the sketch exactly.  I used 3/4 x 4″ strips of DSP and gave both ends of each strip the torn edge detail.  I popped them up on dimensionals and I really like the way that makes them look. I added two circles of card stock: one in Petunia Pop that is 1-7/8″, the other is Basic White in 1-3/4″.

It really is all in the details!

I used the masking tape technique to create the background stripes on this card.  I used Real Red, Darling Duckling, and Cloud Cover.  I love the raggedy feel of the background.  I think it works with the random watercolor effect on the cactus plant and pot.

I added a Soft Sea Foam 2-3/8″ circle and mat on the card.  I was looking for a color that wasn’t in your face for those pieces.  I just wanted them to anchor and outline, not become a bold detail.

The plant is another ephemera piece from the Good Times ephemera set.  The embellishments are also from the In Color set.  Here, you can see I went with the Secret Sea gems for a nice bold pop.  I placed them around the plant to draw your eye across that plant, which is my focal image.

This is my favorite of the two cards.  What do you think?
