Scrapbook Challenge YOUrself Sketch Challenge For July

By | 07/07/2020

I am so excited!  I purchased an album kit from Vicki Boutin a few weeks ago and she did a YouTube Live class for the album kit on Sunday.  It started at noon and ended 6 hours later!

I’m not kidding!

It was awesome.  I learned so many fun things from her. I never by album kits or those pads of scrapbook papers because I’ve never been sure what to do with some of the pages.

I got so many great ideas and now I know how to use all the things and how to create all these magical pages.

I tried to apply two of the details to my Challenge YOUrself July DT Layout.

This month was a sketch layout, so I had to work within the sketch and add the details.  I wanted to add one flip up flap and a pull out tab.

This is a lot of stuff on one small page!  It might not have looked so cramped on a 12 x12″ page, but I’m making a 6 x 8″ album for 2020.

I pulled out all my Vicki Goodies and just worked away!  I had a blast!

Lots of details!

I used one of Vicki’s 6×8″ patterned paper pads and selected 6 pages.  The great thing about a paper stack is that it all coordinates.  I believe this is her Let’s Wander set.  I also pulled out some coordinating ephemera and got to work.

I used several ideas that I got from the class.  There is an interactive element from one of the pieces of preprinted pieces that come in a page of preprinted pieces in various sizes.  You cut those apart and then you can score them and create a flip up flap for extra real estate!

You can see that the Happy Memories piece that I used for my title flips up to reveal a sentiment strip that I cut apart and a piece of ephemera.  I love that detail and it is so easy to do!  I simply scored the piece 1/4″ from the top, folded it down and added double sided 1/8″ tape to attach it to the piece above it.  So simple.

The other interactive detail I used is the ticket tag pulls out from behind the picture so I can add more journaling.

One very impressive thing that Vicki did was to cut all the papers apart to start.  The first 3 hours of the class was just cutting the papers.  We took a short break and then spent 3 hours attaching the pieces for each page with a paper clip so that later we had all the pieces we needed for each page attached to the page ready to be put on and decorated with photos and ephemera.  The album is going to be beautiful and fun to look at when I get it all finished later this week.

This was one long sentiment strip that I cut apart and put under the flap for fun.  I loved the flowers on this paper and I love how they hide until you open the flap.

I’ve never been a huge fan of using premade packaged ephemera.  I like to create my own.  I purchased the Vicki stuff just to give it a try. I always feel like it looks flat.  Here you can see that I added some Wink of Stella sparkle pen to the bee.  I added it to a few other pieces as well so the page has some sparkle.  You can see that I added some gold and silver sequins as well because I do love a metallic element on my pages.  A little sparkle and shine always adds interest to the page.

One other impressive thing about Vicki’s class:  There was nothing wasted.  She used every smidgeon of paper in that album kit.  It was amazing!

She’s coming out with a Christmas Album kit that we will be able to preorder in July and I can’t wait to get it just so I can participate in another one of her marathon classes!
