Stamping and Scrapping Sunday: Get Inspired To Scrapbook With a Sketch

By | 06/25/2023

I found some really inspiring sketches scrapbook layouts on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago.  You can see my Pinterest scrapbook layouts board HERE!

I selected a sketch by Laura Whitaker’s Stuck! Sketchbook and decided to use the Close To My Heart Hello Darlin’ scrapbook workshop kit and stamp set to create a layout today.

I love the bold colors and the beautifully detailed florals in this collection.  I’ve done a bit of stamping on my base foundation page to add some texture to my layout.  I always love stamping on my layouts.  There is a lot of satisfaction to using your stamps for more than just making cards.  Adding beautiful details to your memory keeping is a huge plus! It adds real interest to your pages.

I created a sketch to reflect my final layout.

Sometimes I find it really helpful to start with a sketch someone else made that has some details that I love.  Then I create a layout with the supplies that I have on hand.  I use the details that I like and then change the other details to fit the materials that I’m using.

This helps me use what I have in my stash instead of buying stuff that I need to make someone else’s sketch in exactly the same way.

In this case, I had some die cuts that were included in this workshop kit that I wanted to use on my layout.  Instead of using a tag for example, I used the semicircle die cut in the kit and added some journaling lines to it with the “It’s The Little Things” stamp set that I have in my stash from CTMH.

I also didn’t have a CTMH word background stamp that worked for the sketch, so I pulled out my Background Elements stamp set and added the splatter stamping.  I love that detail!

I also added the scallop border die cut instead of a banner die.  The dimensions of the layers are also different.  I really wanted more of that floral background to show around the edges of my layout than the sketch accounted for.

All in all, I felt very inspired by Laura Whitaker’s original sketch.  I loved all the white space on the page as well as the balance of the layout.  Having that as a starting point encouraged me to keep a lot of white space, use less embellishments, and maintain a balanced layout.

It’s a learning process!
