To Buy The Punch or Not To Buy The Punch?

By | 06/10/2013

When I first started stamping, I took some stamping classes at a local stamping store.  Local on Long Island means anyplace on Long Island, even if it is slightly more than an hour away!  This was a fabulous store because it specialized in just stamping.  The walls were covered with stamps of all kinds and there were racks of beautiful specialty papers.  Even in this store, there weren’t stamp sets and coordinating ribbons and papers.  The store carried a variety of goodies from almost every different company out there.  The problem is, the papers from one paper company don’t necessarily match the ribbons and inks from other companies.  This is one of the things I LOVE about Stampin’ Up!  Everything is designed to coordinate.

When Stampin’ Up! offers a bundle, I can’t resist it!  The catalog is full of bundles.  You save money when you buy the bundles of products instead of buying the parts separately over several orders.  Make sure you comb the catalog for the bundles!!  For example, on page 123 of the catalog, you will find the Mosaic Madness Bundle.  You save 15% if you purchase the stamp set and the coordinating punch at the same time!

Take a look at the difference the punch makes!

These two cards are the same with the exception of the punch!  The left card is made using the punch and popping the images up on stampin’ dimensionals.  The one on the right is made using the stamped image directly on the card.  When I first started out, I didn’t really have any punches.  I would painstakingly cut each image that I wanted to stand out.  With the coordinating punch, this card was quick to make!

I actually really like both cards!  I did find it easier to line up the images I punched out.  I also love the texture and dimension an image that’s elevated gives a card.  You can’t really buy a card like that.  I think texture is everything.  I think that about clothes, furniture, food and handbags!!!  Who doesn’t love the feel of a gorgeous soft leather handbag?  Yum!

To Make These Cards:

Paper:  Whisper White cut at 4-1/4 x 11″, scored and folded at 5-1/2″

Inks:  Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana (Isn’t this a gorgeous color combo?  I think this is my new favorite combination!)

Stamp Sets:  Mosaic Madness and Really Good Greetings

Accessories:  Mosaic Punch, rhinestones, crumb cake ribbon, stampin’ dimensionals

Although both cards are stunning, the punches do make an impact.
