Yay For You!

By | 01/28/2018

When I got home from work on Thursday, I found crafty goodness in a box on my doorstep in the form of this month’s My Favorite Things craft kit, Yay for You!

Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to get started creating and participating in challenges.  I made 3 cards and I am participating in 2 challenges with the first card.

I’m participating in the Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge #134 Color Challenge for this week and the CAS Colours and Sketches Challenge #256.

Here is my card using the SIP colors and the CAS sketch:

The colors that I used are Pink Pirouette, Calypso Coral and Rich Razzleberry from the SIP Color Challenge.

Stampin’ Up! has a beautiful set of designer papers called Painted with Love Specialty designer paper.  They are considered to be specialty papers because they have gold foil accents.  This paper uses these 3 colors and Melon Mambo.  (It actually uses Powder Pink instead of Pink Pirouette.)

The sktech is a great Clean and Simple sketch…CAS for short.  I’ve actually used it for 2 cards today!

I used this same sketch for my second card below which I am going to use to participate in the Hand Stamped Sentiments Inspiration Challenge.

For this card, I was playing around with two techniques.  I was playing around with a die cutting technique that involved using scraps of card stock cut into strips and layered together.  I attached them to a piece of white card stock and then die cut the sentiment.

For the background, I just did a quick watercolor drip technique.  I have to say that I used such bold card stock colors for the sentiment that I wished I had taken more time to make the watercolor background a little bolder in color as well.

I did use Shimmer Mist sparkle spray to both the background and the sentiment.  Sadly, you can’t see how sparkly it is in the photo.  It is so pretty in person!

You can see that I’ve used the same sketch but with a heart and my own background creation.  I also moved the sentiment below the die cut.

My inspiration for colors and technique came from the Hand Stamped Sentiments Inspiration Challenge for the week:

I knew I wanted a heart and I knew that I wanted color and a lot of it.  I also wanted it to feel like there was just a crazy combination of color going on.

The beauty of this die cutting technique is that you get a second card out of the negative part of the die cut.

I always love to get two cards at once from a technique.  Plus it always makes me feel like I’m stretching my tools and supplies to do more and work harder giving me more for my money.  I love that!

Anytime you can create 3 cards using a variety of techniques, colors and sketches, is a good day!  Stamping Imperfection Yay for You

You can see the kit came with a huge number of sentiments and dies.  I used only 2 of the 3 Yay dies and none of the shapes.  It also came with some beautiful card stock, but I used stuff in my stash that was already cut or in my scrap basket.

This leaves me more to play with on another day!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!  I hope you find some time to craft today.  Remember to embrace the imperfections!
