Participating in a month long layout a day challenge is really quite a challenge! I’m enjoying it immensely and I am loving all the scrapbooking that I’ve been doing.
I don’t think I’ll ever give up stamping and cardmaking, but I am finding that right now, I’m really loving the scrapbooking.
Scrapbooking was how I got involved in papercrafting in the first place.
Having this curated kit to play with while doing the LOAD challenge has been fabulous!
On day 23, the story prompt was to create a page about sibling relationships. I used a picture of my kids when they were just about teenagers. Can you tell from their body language in the picture?! Here is my page:
I love these papers!! I did add some ephemera from my stash to these pages and I’m loving how I can’t even tell what wasn’t included in the kit without looking at the packages!
The next time I purchase one of these kits, I will definitely be ordering the extra ephemera kit for the month as well. I think you can see that I do love to layer ephemera!!
I also love puffy hearts and phrases. It’s ridiculous, but pulling out a sheet of puffy title phrases and finding one that works with the page just makes my day!
Day 24 had a prompt about a special relationship, so I used a photo of my daughter and her boyfriend. They are in the midst of purchasing their first house together and it has been exciting to hear all the details and the stress!!
I love the papers on this page. I also love that cut apart tag sheet. I’ve been using them and tucking them in so they can be pulled out to read the journaling. For this one, I’m going to let my daughter do the journaling.
I love the ephemera on this page too! This is also a combination of different collections to supplement what came in the kit. I really liked the chipboard frames that came in the kit. That is an element that I’ve never used before and I am actually enjoying finding ways to make them work on my page.
Day 25 had a prompt about a ball or formal event. I don’t attend either of those and I don’t like dressing up that much! I used a picture from 1998 when my husband and I had to get dressed up for a church event.
I’ve been feeling a little like my pages are too plain because I haven’t been using any stamping or mixed media. Today, I played with mixed media!
I added some modeling paste through a stencil. Once that was dry, I dry brushed on some Dried Marigold and Carved Pumpkin distress oxide inks. Then I added some white gouache splatters and some black ink spray splatters. It felt a lot more like my work after I added those touches!
I used another one of the chipboard frames and lots of great ephemera from the Cozy Days ephemera pack that I got a few days ago. I also added some frayed jute twine to add some fiber elements.
So far, I’ve gotten 5 layouts from this Hip Kit Club kit. I still have one entire sheet and 2 half sheets of patterned paper left.
I have to admit that creating a layout a day is a lot of fun and I can use all my stamping techniques and my mixed media goodies if I want to.
I will have to probably lay off the ephemera if I don’t want to break my crafty budget every month!! I will have to find the balance between using the fun stuff you can buy and the stuff I can make with the dies and stamps that I have.
I do remember back in the day when I was only scrapbooking and I had not started stamping yet, I didn’t need as much craft space. The stamping really took over the space and it is an overwhelming amount of stuff. Now that I’ve discovered digital stamping and digital products, I think that will help control the stash quite a bit. I’m already finding that I am purchasing much less now that I’m scrapbooking more and stamping less and now that I’m using my digital stamps and Copics.
