May is such a lovely month to celebrate Mothers. Spring is finally here and everything is blooming and the sun is shining. I’ve always loved that the school year was starting to wind down and the celebrations and get togethers were beginning.
This month’s scrapbook challenge at Challenge YOUrself is all about MOM!
Remember the rule is that YOU have to be in the photo. I considered using a picture I have of me holding my son just a day after he was born. We had just brought him home from the hospital and my daughter who was only 15 months old was patting him on the back very gently.
Instead, I selected a picture of me with my Mom and Dad. This is my graduation from my Medical Technology internship just after my college graduation. August 1984! Phew. It was a good day!
This is all Vicki Boutin goodies! You know that I got those last week and they have been waiting to be played with. I loved doing the things with these ready made materials.
Vicki encourages you to make 6 x 8″ album pages. Let go of the 12 x 12″ pages. I am loving this advice. It’s not as overwhelming to do a smaller page and you can put all the goodies on.
Usually I do my own background, but Vicki now has this fantastic pad of ready to use mixed media paper. I didn’t add anything more than some white and black dots with my gel pen and journaling marker to the background. I love this paper! I love that I could add my own mixed media touches because the paper is heavy enough to do that.
You can see that I also added some black lines and dots and white dots to the flowers as well. I just felt like I wanted to add a few of my own touches.
My favorite embellishment is that fantastic layered butterfly with the acetate outline layer. It has so much dimension. LOVE it!
I’ve used pieces from several of the ephemera packages that I got. I ordered from Scrapbook.com and got a free Scrapbook magazine. I don’t normally purchase magazines anymore, so that was a nice treat to receive! ALWAYS check the coupon tab at the top of the page because they have specials and freebies all the time at Scrapbook.com. Take advantage of those!
For quite a few years, I stopped using the premade die cuts and papers. I was all about making my own patterned paper with my stamps and mixed media materials. I made my own die cuts and did a lot of stamping on the pages. I have some truly beautiful pages, but I stopped taking the time to do the scrapbooking because it was time consuming.
Now I create more scrapbook pages and I’m getting pictures that have been sitting in a box in albums that I am truly enjoying looking back at.
When I looked at this photo I thought about how thin Mom and I were in 1984! I’m 22 and she’s 41! Crazy. I also had the crazy thought about…so that’s what color my hair really is!
Get your photos scrapbooked and be as creative as you have time to be. If you’re busy, check out the links I’ve added below to Vicki’s stuff and treat yourself to some papers and ephemera that you can create quick pages with. Add your own touches with your journaling pens, gel pens and other mixed media.
