The new Star Stampz Challenge this month is an Anything Goes Mixed Media Challenge.
I selected the Sparkle Digital Stamp from the Star Stampz Etsy shop.
I am still a newbie with mixed media. I am super comfortable with using all kinds of mediums. On this piece, I have used a gold Paper Glaze on the stars around the girl. I used a Vicki Boutin glaze with a stencil. I’ve used some Nuvo Mousse with a couple of stencils as well.
I used some ink and did some watercoloring. I also used some metallic watercolor paints to create the gold all over the piece. I’ve added lots of splatter with ink and gouache.
I also finally got some Posca paint pens to make marks on my project as well. This is still outside my comfort zone. I felt like they were too dark or bright compared to the rest of the project. I did some stamping with distress oxides in pumice stone over the top of them to tone them down.
I’m also not as comfortable adding fibers and found things. I did add a few things here, but alas I feel skeptical about them.
All in all, I like the piece and I really had fun making it!
I have a lot of fantastic stencils that are perfect for mixed media. I used several from Vicki Boutin on this piece.
I’m especially happy with how this sweet digi sparkle girl turned out with my Copics!! I am almost there with the hair!
While I’m still a work in progress, I hope you enjoy seeing these pieces outside my comfort zone. I find them very relaxing to create and I love that I’m experimenting the entire time I create them.
